Tigers hang around for a half, eventually fall 49-21 to No. 3 Lindsey Wilson

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In the final home game of the season for the Campbellsville University football team, NAIA No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College earned a 49-21 win at Finley Stadium.

The Tigers recognized eight seniors prior to the game in their final game at Finley Stadium as linebacker Andrew Bennett, wide receiver Arian Belt, defensive back Daquan Pace, defensive lineman Micah Corley, defensive lineman Anthony Sams Jr., long snapper Blake Coffman, offensive lineman Carlos Reyes, and tight end/offensive lineman Jordan Bass were all honored.

The game looked like it could get out of hand early as Lindsey Wilson took a 14-0 lead heading into the second quarter but a big defensive play helped the Tigers get on the board.

Sams Jr. came closing in on LWC quarterback Cameron Dukes off of the right edge as he sacked Dukes to force a fumble on the CU 21 yard line. The ball was recovered by Bennett and taken all the way to the Lindsey Wilson six yard line before he was tackled.

A pair of penalties took them back to the 21 when Joshua Meglis found Tate Pringle for a 16-yard touchdown pass on third down to make it 14-7. Pringle had a huge game for the Tigers as he finished with the single-game record for receptions at CU with 15 on the game, breaking Jarrod Harrington's previous record set in 2015, also against Lindsey Wilson.

Pringle finished the game with those 15 catches for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the junior transfer from San Bernardino Valley College has proven to be CU's go-to target outside.

Back-to-back turnovers led to a quick six-play, 35-yard touchdown drive for the Blue Raiders but the Tigers weren't going to go into halftime quietly. CU drove for a 12-play, 75-yard drive over 4:27 as Josh Hinton scored the first touchdown of his career from a yard out to make it a one-score game again.

Unfortunately for Campbellsville, Lindsey Wilson showed their offensive explosiveness as they went 85 yards on just five plays and in 32 seconds to take the lead back up to 14 before halftime following a 55-yard pass then a 15-yard TD strike from Dukes to running back Jaylen Boyd.

The third quarter was all Blue Raiders as they outscored the Tigers 14-0 to pull away at 42-14 before both teams scored in the fourth with most of Lindsey Wilson's backups in to bring it to the final score of 49-21.

Campbellsville football will have one more game remaining in the 2020 season as they will travel down to Lebanon, Tenn. for a matchup with Cumberland University on Friday, Apr. 9.
