Tigers early hot hitting leads to 9-5 midweek win over Brescia

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In their final home non-conference home game of the season, the Campbellsville University baseball team earned a 9-5 win over Brescia University at HIG Field Tuesday night.

The Tigers scored all nine runs in the first four innings of the game as they scored two runs each in the first three innings followed by a three-spot in the fourth inning to pull ahead 9-4 at the time.

Brescia did pull ahead to a 3-0 lead off of Braxton Davis after three-straight hits to start the inning including a two-RBI single by shortstop John Benevolent then a sacrifice fly by Kendal Kortz.

CU loaded the bases in the bottom of the first as Jaylin Turner and Tommy Sepulveda drove in runs with a hit by pitch and a fielder's choice groundout RBI respectively. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead in the second after Aaron Greenfield doubled to lead off the inning followed by a Dawson Cole RBI double as Cole eventually scored on a wild pitch.

A Colton Titus two-out, two-RBI single gave the Tigers a 6-4 lead and they never relinquished the lead after they added the three runs in the fourth as Turner and Sepulveda drove in runs again as Turner smashed an RBI double to deep center and Sepulveda roped a ball down the left field line to score two to make it 9-4.

Campbellsville pitched a bullpen game as Braxton Davis pitched the first three innings to give up four runs on five hits with two strikeouts to still be able to pick up the win. The six-pitcher combination over the final six innings of Deshawn Welch, Jackson Izatt, Noah Godfrey, Mason Lee, Logan Davis, and Kam Robertson only gave up four hits and a run to finish the game.

Izatt in particular had an eventful inning with three strikeouts, a balk, two hit batters, and a wild pitch in his scoreless inning of work.

Up next for Campbellsville will be the final home series of the year when they welcome University of Pikeville to HIG Field for a three-game series this Friday and Saturday with Tiger Senior Day festivities taking place pregame on Friday.
