CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Riding high off of their 10-4 series opening win on Friday, the Campbellsville University baseball team earned a split in Saturday afternoon's doubleheader as they earned a 10-0 win then lost 6-0 in the finale.
Game 1 Summary
It was a strong overall performance in Saturday's first game for the Tigers as the pounded out 13 hits to score their 10 runs as
Noah Amenta and
Tommy Sepulveda both had three hits with
Eddy Arteaga and
Jaylin Turner drove in a pair of runs each.
On the mound in game one, the left-handed pair of
Korren Thompson and
Gage Smart threw the seven innings of the run-rule game as they combined to strikeout 14 batter and only allow four hits. Thompson struck out eight in five innings with three walks as every out Smart recorded was via the strikeout in the final two innings of the game.
Game 2 Summary
The Bears returned the favor in Saturday's game two as they shutout the Tigers 6-0 behind a 10-hit performance offensively, allowing only four hits to Campbellsville after UPike only had the four hits in game one.
Aaron Hutchinson and
Trestyn DuMilieu both pitched over three innings giving up six and four hits respectively with DuMilieu striking out seven. The pitching tandem of Jairemy Pulido and Ethan Cernohous gave up a lot of weak contact only striking out four combined as Cernohous only gave up two walks as his only baserunners in three innings in relief.
Campbellsville will host Union College on Tuesday for their final home game of the 2021 regular season before finishing off the regular season on the road at Thomas More University for three then at Tennessee Wesleyan.
