Tigers get back on track with blowout win over Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – After combining to score 13 runs over four games, the Campbellsville University baseball team pounded out 18 runs Tuesday afternoon on the road against Union on their way to an 18-4 win.

CU got the bats going early by putting up a four-spot in the first inning with the big blow coming off of the bat of Jaylin Turner by way of a three-run home run. The Tigers also scored a run earlier in the inning on a Noah Amenta RBI single with runners on second and third just before the Turner homer.

Following scoreless second and third innings, Campbellsville scored a pair of runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to pull ahead 10-2 at the time with RBIs from Bryan Javier, Eddy Arteaga, Colton Titus, Dutton Elske, and Aaron Greenfield.

The seventh inning was where the Tigers really pulled away after Union made it 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth with an eight-run seventh inning to get to the 10-run rule before closing it out in the bottom half.

In that top of the seventh, Tommy Sepulveda got the scoring started with a two-RBI double, followed by an Elske RBI single, then Javier's second RBI hit of the game. An error by the Bulldogs plated another CU run before Anthony Marcano recorded a pinch-hit RBI double with the final blow of the game coming on a Ben Turay two-RBI double for his first hit as a Tiger.

On the mound for Campbellsville in the game was the combination of Braxton Davis, Aaron Hutchinson, and Gage Smart as they combined to give up only two earned runs on four hits and striking out only four batters. Davis picked up the win after going 4.1 innings with the start, giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Tiger baseball will stay on the road for their Mid-South Conference weekend series when they travel to Williamsburg, Ky. for a three-game series against University of the Cumberlands this Saturday and Sunday.
