BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Looking to make their second-straight appearance in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship match, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team did just that with a 3-0 win over Webber International University in Friday evening's semifinals.
The Tigers made quick work of the Warriors after battling it out in the first set to win by scores of 29-27, 25-13, and 25-16 on their way to their 25
th win of the season.
Campbellsville limited the WIU offense significantly with 40 digs on their 85 total attacks as Webber ended the match with 19 kills and 18 errors for a .012 hitting percentage in the match compared to CU's .292.
A balanced attack was the name of the game for the Tigers as they had six different players with four or more kills led by 11 from
Rafael Cruz.
Ho Yin Leung (8),
Ramon Matos (7),
Isaac Paches (6),
Noah Henkel (5), and
Ryan Smith (4) had strong matches on the attack.
The back row efforts were led by 2021 Libero of the Year
Jay Montalvo as the redshirt junior finished with the match-high 14 digs.
Jose Viera Cerame and Cruz added eight and six digs respectively to balance out the back row performance for CU.
Smith and
Jeremy Hernandez split setting duties to Hernandez leading the way at 20 assists while Smith finished with 13 and his four kills while also adding two block assists in the match.
It will be a battle of the Tigers in the MSC Championship as No. 1 Campbellsville and No. 2 Georgetown will battle it out to see which program will win their first ever MSC Tournament crown.
