SILVIS, Ill. – In improved conditions conducive to lower scores, the Campbellsville University men's golf team was able to solidify their position amongst the NAIA's best teams, moving to a tie for 12
th and making the cut to play in rounds three and four after their 297 (+13) at TPC Deere Run on Wednesday afternoon.
Most teams that made the cut shot under 300 as the temperature was in the 70s with partly sunny skies until the very end of the afternoon rounds when some rain came down with the final groups finishing up their last two holes.
All but one member of the Tigers improved on their day one scores led by a trio of final cards of 74 (+3) from
Justin Warman,
Dominic Ramsey, and
Jon Brewington.
Landon Conner wasn't far behind those three as Conner improved six shots from Tuesday to Wednesday after carding a 75 (+4) as the fourth score to count for the team total.
Warman had the most consistent round for Campbellsville, with two birdies and five bogeys as Conner also stayed away from anything worse than a bogey but only birdied one hole on the day. Brewington had the most birdies on the day for the Tigers, including a stretch of three-straight birdies that ended a run of four birdies in six holes.
After putting up the best score for CU on Tuesday,
Austin Mahoney had a tough final eight holes after playing the first 10 to a +1 score before finishing with a 78 (+7) on the day.
The Tigers will play in the final groupings going off on the back nine for Thursday's third round as the individual pairings are now made by individual standing in the tournament, not the one-through-five lineups set by the coaches. The new order for CU on Thursday will be Conner, Ramsey, Brewington, Mahoney, and Warman.
Campbellsville has been paired with Oklahoma City and William Woods who stand in tied for eighth and alone in 11
th respectively. That grouping will tee off on hole 10 starting at 9:09 a.m. CT with the final pairings teeing off at 9:45 a.m. CT.
