BOWLING GREEN, KY – Lady Tigers were able to start their season with three victories down at the Vette City Classic in Bowling Green this weekend.
The team was able to go 3-1 over the tournament. They won their first two games over Blue Mountain College (3-1) and Point University (3-1) on Friday. During Saturday afternoons games, the team fell in their first match of the day to NAIA #16 Marian University (0-3) and finished off with a win over Brescia (3-0).
The sister duo of
Cierra Merrick and
Paige Merrick was able to get off to a hot start this weekend. Cierra was able to make an early impression when she had 11 kills in the match against Brescia. Sister Paige had two matches over the course of the weekend in which she had 36 assists.
Paige added a double double to her tally in game two against Point University. She had 36 assists while also bring in 11 digs.
Stela Velinova led the Lady Tigers with a game high of 14 kills in game two in their win over Point. Rookie
Molly Shannon made her mark for the Lady Tigers along with Velinova with her added 12 kills in the same match.
Shannon was voted to the Vette City Classic All-Tournament Team.
Campbellsville has started their season the past three years in Bowling Green and has come away with a record of 3-1 each time.
Lady Tigers will be back in action on Thursday August 26
th against Keiser University. That match will be in the Gosser Gymnasium at 10 a.m. ET.
