CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Behind yet another stellar performance by
Sebastiano Musu, the Campbellsville University Tigers downed the Asbury University Eagles 6-0.
Musu continued his absolute tear. In the 10
th minute, junior midfielder
Gustav Oskarsson rocketed a shot off Asbury's keeper that rebounded straight to Musu for the boot. That score made it four straight games with a goal. The Tigers wouldn't have to wait long for his follow-up goal either.
After a mash-up of players from both teams in the 20
th minute, Musu was awarded a penalty kick which he capitalized on for his second score of the night. It was a bit of dry spell before sophomore
Marc Boye launched a half field assist to freshmen forward
Luis Gabriel who baited Asbury's keeper and then chipped in a goal right over him.
In the second half, possession evened out. Asbury would record their second shot of the night in the opening minute of the second half. Campbellsville maintained control of the game through their defense, however. Eventually, that sound defense sprung a breakaway attack in the 64
th minute. Captain
Tom Edge slid a pass to Oskarsson for Edge's second assist of the season and Oskarsson's second goal respectively. Oskarsson would update that statistic a mere ten minutes later when he nailed a shot off a pass from Gabriel.
In a repeat of events from earlier in the match, Musu was granted a penalty kick in the box though this time after a foul from the goalkeeper. Although the keeper read the kick direction correctly, Musu's ball was too quick and it connected with the back of the net. Musu recorded the first back-to-back hat trick of his career in the 78
th minute. The Tigers would end with 20 more shots compared to the Eagles and would hold Asbury to zero shots on goal.
Campbellsville men's soccer climbs to 4-0 on the season. Next, they will host the University of Pikeville, a Mid-South Conference foe, at home on September 21
st at 8 p.m. ET.
