CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In a game called early due to weather, the Campbellsville University men's soccer team beat Pikeville 6-0.
Just as the Pikeville University women's soccer team before them, the Bears came into the match with a clear defensive game plan in mind. Though Campbellsville's ball control was evident, Pikeville held the Tigers to three shots in the opening 20 minutes before sophomore midfielder
Samuel Londono received a swift pass from freshmen
Harry Freeman for the goal. That assist was Freeman's first career assist for the Tigers. Six minutes later following a foul in the box,
Sebastiano Musu would raise Campbellsville's score to two with a penalty kick to the bottom right of the goal past the outstretched hands of the keeper. Minutes after a
Tom Edge rocket that missed after it bounced off the post, Londono found Musu for a huge strike into the net. That raised Musu's total to eight goals in the past three matches.
The second half proved to be an equally eventful one. The Tigers' first six shots were misses or saves, but then the Tigers were able to translate. In the 69
th minute, midfielder
Pedro Ramos zipped in a free kick from just outside the box for his first goal of the season and in the 71
st forward
Sergio Tarrida launched a shot that connected. In another three minutes' time,
Gianluca Contegno joined Ramos with his first goal of the season as well. Due to lightning past the 70
th minute, the game was called, and the Tigers won 6-0. The Tigers logged 21 shots with 12 on goal compared to Pikeville's 4 shots (with none on goal).
The Tigers face their next opponent Saturday September 25
th. The match will be the second game of a double header against Mid-South Conference rival Shawnee State University.
