PIKEVILLE, KY – The
Lady Tigers made it three matches in a row where they swept their opponent with their defeat of University of Pikeville Saturday afternoon.
Campbellsville was able to get the offense going early.
Paige Merrick recorded 13 assists alone in the first set while having 37 for the match.
Salma Gonzalez-Sosa turned defense into transition offense in the first set with her having eight digs while collecting 19 total. Senior
Sonia Flendrich joined Gonzalez-Sosa in the double figures for digs with her recording 15. The Lady Tigers did not have any trouble getting through the first set with their 25-19 win.
In the second set, Pikeville kept things close the whole set pushing the Lady Tigers up to 17-17 at one point. Campbellsville was able to regain control of the set when they pulled away with a 25-20 win.
In the third and final set, the Bears were once again trying to keep the match going with an early score of 4-4 in the set. Campbellsville went on to control the tempo of the remainder of the match for a 25-13 victory and win the match in straight sets.
Alina Zellin helped lead the team on the offensive side with 10 total kills.
Campbellsville dominated the stat lines. Lady Tigers had 42 kills compared to the Bears 20. The team was able to hold Pikeville to a .047 hitting percentage while Campbellsville had a .147.
The Lady Tigers will return home Thursday September 23
rd for a matchup against Thomas More University. That match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET.
