The Tigers shut out the Bears on Edge’s record-breaking night

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – On a night where Tom Edge broke the school record for most games played by a men's soccer player, the Tigers remained undefeated with a win over the Shawnee State Bears 6-0.

The first score of the match came in the tenth minute from a streaking Gustav Oskarsson off a lead pass from Samuel Londono. It would have been Oskarsson again seven minutes later, but the junior midfielder was called offsides. That didn't affect Oskarsson's drive for another goal though. In the 30th minute, from a brilliant cross by Eleder Goicoechea, Oskarsson snapped the ball into the net with his head. Goicoechea would himself get a score before the half as Tom Edge found him sprinting up the far sideline for a clean look at the goal in the 37th minute.

The Tigers went into the second half outpacing the Bears in shots 9-3 (4-1 in shots on goal). The Bears shared possession in a more even capacity compared to the opening 45 minutes. However, the Tigers dictated the pace slowing things down and picking their spots. In the 62nd minute, after only entering the game two minutes before, Sergio Tarrida rocketed in a shot from Luis Gabriel for the fourth goal of the night. 15 minutes later Tarrida would hit paydirt again from a crisp pass by sophomore Matys Savigny, his first assist of the season. As the clock ticked down, Gianluca Contegno connected for the sixth and final goal of the night.

With his start, Tom Edge set the record for most games played by a Campbellsville University men's soccer player with 84. Over his career thus far, Tom has notched 16 goals, 11 assists, spent 6,526 minutes on the pitch, and has been integral to his team's 229 goals-for compared to the Tigers' 84 goals against in his career. Through his years, Edge has earned:

  • All Mid-South Conference First and Second Teams Selections
  • NCCAA Second Team All-American Selections
  • An All-Mid-East Region Team Selection
  • An NAIA All-American Honorable Mention

The Tigers will have the second match in a double-header when they travel to face the (15) University of the Cumberlands for their next match. That intra-conference game will take place on Tuesday, September 28th at 7 p.m. ET.
