WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Two overtime periods weren't enough for the Tigers and Patriots to decide an outcome. This was the first overtime contest of the season for Campbellsville, the fourth for the Patriots.
The teams looked identical in the first half. Each club would fire five shots apiece with Campbellsville controlling the early part and the Patriots having a surge to close out the frame.
Jeremi Campagnolo made two huge saves in the 43
rd and 44
th minute to send it to halftime in a scoreless tie. Nathan Hart, the Patriots keeper, would also rack up a save to end the first half.
Cumberlands brought all the pressure to start the second half. Campagnolo stood strong as the last line of defense. Campbellsville would use their back line pushing into the offensive third to apply pressure of their own. Hart would match the energy of CU's keeper and keep it blank.
In the first overtime period, both clubs would present goal scoring opportunities. However, their runs were cut out. The Patriots had four of their eight corners in overtime period number two.
Marc Boye and
Connor Grant used their size in the box to clear out these potential threats.
Campbellsville tallied 13 shots, placing five on frame. The foul category was dead even at 13 each. Cumberlands would edge Campbellsville out in shots and corners.
Senior Tom edge would pace Campbellsville ripping off six shots.
Sergio Tarrida and
Luis Gabriel would also pitch in on the effort with Tarrida having three shots and Gabriel having two shots respectively.
