PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Lady Tiger Volleyball had four attackers finish in double figures behind
Alina Zellin's team-high, season-high, and career-high 18 kills.
Cierra Merrick was right behind Zellin finishing with 13 kills, her new season and career high. This win moves Campbellsville to 14-3, 5-1 inside of conference competition.
Set one was what one could imagine. Campbellsville led 22-18 but Shawnee State would bring some momentum. The Bears brought the set to 24-23, but
Sutton Mason would drive one of four kills down to go up 1-0. Zellin and
Molly Shannon lead Campbellsville with six kills apiece.
The Lady Tigers would take another exciting set two. Shawnee State jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead. CU would bounce back with another run of their own. Campbellsville took the frame 25-21 ending another burst of energy from the Bears. Zellin finished with a team-high 6 kills, moving her to 12 on the match.
Shawnee State answered the call in set three. The Bears had 10 total blocks compared to the four of Campbellsville. Shawnee forced CU to a negative hitting percentage while they posted a .171 for the set, taking it 25-20.
The Bears ran to a quick 5-2 run in set four. Campbellsville returned the favor with a 14-0 run of their own, pushing their lead to 16-5. The red-hot Lady Tigers would post their highest hitting percentage of the match at .433, going 16-for-30 on the set.
Cierra Merrick would rack up 7 of her 13 kills to finish off the bears.
CU led majority of the team stats finishing with: 62 kills, 60 assists, 97 digs and 6 service aces. Defense played a huge role this afternoon.
Salma Gonzalez-Sosa complied 33 digs, while
Paige Merrick and
Molly Shannon ended with 15 and 11, respectively.
Paige Merrick assisted on 52 kills, completing consecutive double-doubles.
Campbellsville Volleyball returns home for four straight matches. The Lady Tigers will welcome Mid-South Conference foe Georgetown College into Gosser Gymnasium on Tuesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
