CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Tigers were operating on all cylinders Saturday night with a statement 5-1 victory over the Saint Xavier Cougars.
The Tigers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Midfielder
Tom Edge launched a bomb from deep off a tap assist by
Eleder Goicoechea in the fifth minute. Campbellsville would only need another eight minutes to add to their total.
Sebastiano Musu flew down the sideline and passed to Edge who then hit Musu right back for the goal.
In the 23
rd minute, a free kick by Edge was utilized for a short pass to senior
Eleder Goicoechea who rocketed a strike that was deflected by Saint Xavier's goalkeeper Andres Zamora straight to Campbellsville sophomore midfielder
Samuel Londono for the score.
The Cougars would connect with the net themselves though in the 40
th minute. The Cougar's Forian Mahone had his shot blocked by Tiger defender
Marc Boye but the ball found the foot of Saint Xavier's Lawrence Gyimah leading to the scoring kick. Not three minutes later, a Saint Xavier turnover led to a breakaway by Musu for his second goal of the night.
The Campbellsville goals slowed in the second half. The lone score came when Goicoechea floated a corner kick to senior defender
Connor Grant who rose for the header connection in the 52
nd minute. The Tigers' goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo leapt for a huge save when the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick in the 59
th minute. The sophomore Campagnolo ended the match with six total saves.
The Campbellsville Men's Soccer team will be at home again for their next contest against Oakland City University at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday September 11.
