Tigers sweep Cougars to end Vs. Cancer Crossover Challenge

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #14 Campbellsville University's men's volleyball team hosted their second home match Saturday afternoon in the Vs. Cancer NAIA/NCAA Crossover Challenge. The Tigers take to the Cougars in three straight sets, 3-0. 

In the first set, Bastian Korreck scored the first point for the Tigers with an impressive kill. After the Cougars went on a 3-0 run on the Tigers, Drew Sims gained his first kill of the match to take the score to 3-2. Not long after the point by Sims, Bastian Korreck, Jason Camacho, and Eric Heller kept the Tigers alive to continue their lead. The Tigers' 3-0 run was stopped by the Cougars to make the score 15-13. The Tigers eventually took the first set of the match 25-18. 

In the second set, the Cougars scored the first point of the set. Tied at 9-9, Sims and Korreck worked together to take the lead. Camacho added another kill to his stats to take the score to 12-9 over the Cougars. After a 4-0 run, the Tigers were plagued by several errors and helped the Cougars to be only two points behind, leaving the score 20-18. Their errors continued, bringing the score to 22-21. The Tigers pulled away to win the second set of the match 25-21. 

In the third set, a kill by Korreck, assisted by Ryan Smith, began the set. After a 3-0 run, an attack error gave the Cougars their first point. The Cougars took the lead early in the set, leaving the score 6-4. Korreck helped the Tigers move ahead and go on a 5-0 run while serving. Sims added another kill to bring the ball back to the Tigers' serve. Errors started to take their toll on the Tigers giving the Cougars several free points. Kills by Camacho, Ho Yin Leung and Bastiaan Van Houten brought the Tigers lead to 22-15. With a service error, the Tigers secured the third and final set 25-19.  

The Tigers ended the afternoon with 80 attacks, 41 kills, and 39 assists. Smith led the Tigers with 33 assists. Eric Heller and Bastian Korreck both had nine kills to bolster the Tigers' offense. As a team, the Tigers had a hit percentage of .300, compared to the Cougars' .029.  

Campbellsville travels to Santa Clarita, California next Friday afternoon to compete against Mustangs of Vanguard University in their first of three matches in California. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
