Lady Tigers fall in battle against Bethel

MCKENZIE, Tenn.- The #3 Campbellsville University's women's basketball team traveled down to Bethel University to compete against the Wildcats Thursday afternoon. The Lady Tigers head back to Campbellsville 16-2 on the season after a 61-50 loss to their Mid-South Conference opponent. 
 
To begin the game, Ashlee McGeorge drew a foul under the basket. After that score, Bethel took charge early and jumped to a six-point lead. A pull-up jumper from Maddy Boyle put a stop in the Wildcat's advance. After a scoreless two minutes however, Kaitlynn Wilks put up a layup to cut their deficit to just four. Campbellsville's shooting percentage stood at only 26.7 percent ( far from their season average of 48.8 percent). The quarter ended with Bethel leading by nine with a score of 20-11. 
 
Faith Lake scored first for the Lady Tigers a minute into the second quarter. Lauren Lee followed her teammate with a jump-shot to decrease their trail to five-points. The Wildcats answered these buckets with a 12-point run over the course of three minutes. Wilks' layup ended Bethel's point explosion and stymied the Lady Tigers' shortfall at 14 points. The half came to a close with a score of 33-19 in Bethel's favor. 
 
Campbellsville's shooting decreased over the course of the second quarter down to 25.9 percent. The Lady Tigers had yet to hit a three-pointer out of their eight attempts. Campbellsville collected seven turnovers (five of them being Bethel steals) compared to the Wildcat's two turnovers. Bethel moved the ball around the court collecting seven assists whereas the Lady Tigers only had one. Courtney Pritchett showed aggression for the ball with eight rebounds at the half and teammates Wilks and Lee had three apiece. Wilks led her team with six points and Lee followed with four.
 
The third quarter began with the first three-pointer for Campbellsville sent through by Boyle. The Lady Tigers and Wildcats began trading points back-and-forth. After facing a 16-point discrepancy, Pritchett made a layup and Sarah Sutton followed with a bucket from the arc. Sutton hit two more threes accompanied a jumper from Pritchett bring the Lady Tigers back into a single digit difference. Campbellsville outscored the Wildcats for the first time throughout the match within the quarter. The Lady Tiger's point run propelled them to trail Bethel: 46-39. 
 
In the final quarter, Boyle score a basket with a foul to start for the Lady Tigers. A layup delivered from Faith Lake set Campbellsville just two points from tying. From that point, Bethel charged forward for a ten-point lead with three minutes remaining in the contest. The match ended 61-50 in the Wildcat's favor. 
 
The Lady Tigers improved their shooting to 35.3 percent by game's end. Campbellsville ended with 12 turnovers compared to Bethel's five and two assists in comparison to the Wildcat's 12. Campbellsville's typical strong suit lacked as they only acquired 12 points in the paint whereas Bethel tallied 22. Sutton led with 11 points, Boyle with ten, and Faith Lake followed with nine. Pritchett earned her season-high of ten rebounds, Lee trailed with eight, and McGeorge accompanied with seven. 
 
The Lady Tigers are on the road again this Saturday to rebound against Freed-Hardeman University. The competition is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
