CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #4 Lady Tigers competed against the Patriots at Powell Athletic Center Thursday night. Campbellsville ended the game 18-2 on the season after defeating University of the Cumberlands 81-65, their 13th double digit victory of the year.
The Lady Tigers started the first quarter shaky as they accumulated three turnovers within the first two and a half minutes of play. The Patriots were insistent on acquiring the lead, as they accomplished the task, they moved ahead of the Lady Tigers by five-points. After some tread to decrease the deficit,
Courtney Pritchett pulled up from the arc to even the score at seven. The Cumberlands regained a five-point lead yet again, but with a three from
Shyla Calbert followed by a layup by
Kaitlynn Wilks, the Lady Tigers knotted the score at 14. Following
Sarah Sutton's three from the top of the key,
Lauren Lee's pair of free throws earned Campbellsville their largest lead of the game of four-points.
The second quarter began as Sutton capitalized off her steal which she turned into another bucket from the perimeter. Pritchett followed her teammate with a layup to propel her team to a nine-point lead over the Patriots. Three minutes into the quarter, the Cumberlands had yet to score. The Lady Tigers were on a nine-point run and worked hard to maintain the stamina as they put their bodies on the line via offensive charge calls in their favor. The Lady Tigers maintained a consistent small lead, but Wilks's layup put Campbellsville ahead double-digits. The first half ended in a score of 39-28.
The Lady Tigers had collected 20 points from turnovers alone forcing 13 Patriot fumbles. Lee and Pritchett each earned eight points through the first two quarters. Sutton, McGeorge, and Wilks earned six apiece.
Early in the third, McGeorge's made layup, through over-agressive defense, earned her a charity shot which she converted. Lee mimicked her teammate in the next Tiger possession earning a basket and a foul. The four consecutive baskets put the score at 45-31. The Lady Tiger three-point average typically sits at a 33.7%. However, back-to-back shots from the arc by Pritchett sat Campbellsville at a 75%. Calbert proceeded her teammate with another three making it the team's tenth of the game. Campbellsville averages six three-point baskets per game and had well surpassed that number, ultimately nailing 11. The third quarter closed with a score of 63-46.
