CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The #4 Lady Tigers host the University of Pikeville at Powell Athletic Saturday afternoon. Campbellsville previously defeated the Bears early in the season in a close 64-62 score but fell in this matchup 70-69.
To begin the contest,
Ashlee McGeorge drew a foul under the basket. Her shot from the stripe along with
Maddy Boyle's layup put the Lady Tigers on top of the Bears.
Sarah Sutton's bucket from the arc then settled the score at 8 apiece. The Lady Tigers were falling short in field goal percentage as they were sitting at 26.7% by quarter's end. After trading a couple more baskets, the first quarter ended in a 12-12 tie.
The Bears took the lead early into the second with a free-throw. Boyle took initiative as she drove to the hoop for a basket and a foul. Her shots put Campbellsville in the lead by two. Both teams traded leads for most of the quarter. A basket and a foul for
Faith Lake evened the contest at 28. The first half ended 29-28 with the Bears ahead.
At the half, Campbellsville sat at a 33.3% in field goals. The Lady Tigers had only taken six shots from the arc and had only delivered one. Boyle and McGeorge led the team with nine points and McGeorge collected five rebounds.
The Bears came out early in the third amassing a three-point lead. McGeorge solidified a layup to even the score at 31. Lake's basket from the wing propelled Campbellsville above the Bears. Over midway through the quarter, Pikeville found themselves with their largest lead of the game of six points. As thirty seconds remained, Pritchett earned a basket and a foul. The quarter ended with the Bears leading 56-52.
In the final quarter, Lake drove to the hoop to draw a foul. Her two conversions put Campbellsville at a one possession deficit. The Bears took big shots to get a jump on the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville typically attempt around 18 three-pointers per game but had only attempted nine thus far. The three-point percentage reflected this as the Lady Tigers accumulated a 11.1% for the match while their average is a 35.2%. Two and half minutes remained when Lake hit the second three of the night to decrease her team's deficit to seven. When there was a minute left of play, Pritchett's two charity shots placed her team to trail by three.
Shyla Calbert's jumper with .4 left of play put Campbellsville at a disadvantage of one point. The Bears succesfully inbounded the ball and ran the clock out. The Tigers fell to the Bears 70-69.
By game's end, the Lady Tigers did increase their field goal percentage to a 41.2. McGeorge ended the game with 18 points, Pritchett with 13, and Lake with 12. McGeorge finished with nine rebounds while Pritchett and Lake ended with five each.
The Lady Tigers travel to school rival, Lindsey Wilson, next Thursday. The "Battle of Highway 55" will begin at 6 p.m. ET.
