Campbellsville falls in back and forth match 3-2 to the Phoenix at home

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Merrick sisters score double figures in a losing effort as Campbellsville loses a tightly contested 5th set thriller at home. 

In the first set the Lady Tigers jumped out to a three-point lead and dominated throughout the set. The Lady Tigers cruised in the first set as they defeated the Phoenix, 25-19. Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Molly Shannon with 4 kills. The defensive leader for the Lady Tigers was Andrea Laboy with 6 digs. 
The second set was a completely different story for Campbellsville. The Phoenix flew to an early lead and didn't look back. They took advantage of miscues, and misfires. The Phoenix defeated the Lady Tigers in this set by the score of 25-15. Campbellsville produced seven hitting errors and a hitting percentage of .045 compared to the first set where they had zero errors and a .429 hitting percentage. 

At that midway point of the third set the Phoenix opened up a four-point lead. The Lady Tigers would claw and fight their way through the set to stay competitive and hope to take a two sets to one advantage. 

The Lady Tigers would eventually lose the set 26-28, and go down two sets to one. The difference in the two sets that they had lost so far was the offense. The Lady Tigers produced a .070 hitting percentage and had ten hitting errors, in this set alone. And combined for 17 hitting errors in the last two sets. Although their offense struggled, both teams battled in this set as there were a total of nine score ties times and five lead changes. 

In the forth set, the volleyball action wowed the crowd and kept everyone at the edge of their seats. The Lady Tigers were able to get their offense going as they produced only three hitting errors and a .238 hitting percentage. Similar to the third set both teams battled back and forth. 
There were a total of 11 tied scores and four lead changes.

In the fifth set, the Lady Tigers were in complete control early on as they built a 7-3 lead. Cumberland went on to control the rest of the set from there with a 15-8 win.

The team honored Paige Merrick at the start of the match as she is now the new record holder for all-time career assists. She secured career assists number 5000 during the third set. She finished that match in double figures with 42 assists and 13 digs, Cierra Merrick was also in double figures with 13 kills and 12 digs. Shannon finished with 23 kills and Andrea Laboy anchored the defense with 32 digs. The loss drops Campbellsville's record to 15-5, and 9-2 in the MSC. 

Campbellsville will be back in action on October 26th when they travel to Bethel. That match will begin at 7 p.m.
