MCKENZIE, TN. – Campbellsville did not hold back in getting back to winning ways this evening with a statement (3-0) win over Bethel.
In the first set, the Lady Tigers jumped out to 5-2 lead behind the trio of
Mariane Cassiano,
Molly Shannon, and
Cierra Merrick's kills. Those three set the pace throughout the set for the Lady Tigers. With a relentless attack from their offense, the Lady Tigers would build a 12-6 lead when the Wildcats called their first time out.
That time out did not help much as the Lady Tigers continued to dominate, eight of the next nine points belongs to the Lady Tigers. They would cruise to a 25-11 victory to capture the set. The Lady Tigers would capture a .333 hitting percentage while their defense suffocated the Wildcats offense limiting them to -.054 hitting percentage.
In the second set, the Lady Tigers were determined to continue their dominating ways. They jumped out to an early lead, 5-1. The Wildcats clawed their way back to within couple of points of the lead, but Merrick and Shannon made sure that Lady Tigers opened up a big lead behind their massive kills.
Securing an eight-point lead, the Wildcats tried to climb their way back into the match by securing the next three points to make it 12-7 in favor of the Lady Tigers. However, the Lady Tigers continued to dominate both on offense and on defense as they captured the second set, 25-14. The Lady Tigers hit at a .321 clip while keeping the Wildcats to a .179 hitting percentage.
The start of the third set, the Lady Tigers went on a six-point run and never looked back. They dominated the entire set by scoring in bunches. Midway through the set, they had built a ten-point lead, 18-8.
The Lady Tigers had match point at 24-13, when the Wildcats made on last push to get back into the match, but a kill by Cassiano would prevent any kind of comeback as the Lady Tigers won the set 25-16 and the match, 3-0. In this set the Lady Tigers hit at a .320 clip while the Wildcats hit at a .034 clip.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Cassiano with 9 kills, Shannon and Merrick each had 8 kills, and Hanna McGill stepped in with 7 kills.
Paige Merrick added 23 assists. On the defensive side, the star was
Jalyn Michael with 5 blocks.
Campbellsville returns to action on Thursday October 27
th when they travel to Freed-Hardeman for a 7 p.m. matchup.
