COLUMBIA, KY – The Tigers couldn't mount the comeback in the Battle of Highway 55 on Thursday night.
This rivalry matchup would start out exactly like one would think. The pace, fans and runs were electric. Each side would take turns possessing and narrowly missing on opportunities. In the 19
th minute, James Feeley would swing a ball in with Nathan Schmidli giving Campbellsville the 1-0 advantage.
Lindsey Wilson would gain some momentum and start creating havoc on the offensive side. They would continue to drive at the backline forcing key takeaways. LWC kept on applying pressure, eventually knotting the match up at 1.
Momentum would continue to sway back and forth. Lindsey in the late stages of the first half, would whip a cross in and a Blue Raider rip from outside of the box, found the net. Lindsey Wilson would take the 2-1 lead into the break. The Tigers would outshoot the Blue Raiders 8-7, only placing two of those on frame. The first half was a physical one with six total fouls, four on Campbellsville.
The second period of play started just like the first. Both teams fighting off runs and staying contained on their back line. Each found potential in the 55
th and 56
th minute, both missing the frame by a slim margin. The two would seesaw back and forth until a great chance for Lindsey Wilson would occur in the 65
th. Christian Houge who had been pretty quiet all night, came up with a magnificent save.
Seconds later, Yuso Kojima found some grass outside of the box and let loose missing the frame by inches. The Tigers continued as Antino Quinta would fire a 30-yard blast that was saved off the crossbar.
Campbellsville would gain some momentum after a few dirty challenges from the opposition. Quinta and Boye would have their freekicks dealt with by the defense. The two would continue to apply pressure, neither side giving an inch. The final buzzer would bark and the Blue Raiders would be victorious.
Campbellsville finishes out their regular season 7-5-1, going 5-4-1 inside of conference play. The Tigers will now fix their focus on the Mid-South Conference tournament. They earned the 6-seed and will now host the MSC Opening Round on Tuesday, November 1
st.
