Tigers rally past Southeastern for 3-2 victory

DALTON, Ga. – Campbellsville overcame an early deficit behind goals from Ollie Jagroop, Izan Garcia Gancedo, and Alessandro Martinez, then withstood Southeastern's late pressure to earn a 3-2 victory Saturday in Dalton.

  • Garcia Gancedo contributed to two of Campbellsville's three goals, assisting Jagroop's equalizer and converting the go-ahead penalty. He also led the Tigers with four shots.
  • Martinez scored for the second consecutive match, providing the eventual game-winner at 66:03 to give Campbellsville a 3-1 advantage.
  • The Tigers converted three of their six shots on goal, scoring once every two attempts on frame against Southeastern goalkeeper Noah Murray-Hawkins.
  • Malthe Schou made five saves, including two after halftime, as Southeastern generated 10 shots and seven attempts on goal.
  • Campbellsville held the lead for the final 67 minutes, 16 seconds after Garcia Gancedo moved the Tigers in front during the first half.
  • Southeastern earned six of its seven corner kicks after halftime, but Campbellsville protected its one-goal advantage over the final 14:59.
Southeastern opened the scoring at 5:01 when Koren Klein finished a chance created by Pablo Lobon. Schou then stopped Lobon's attempt in the ninth minute to keep the deficit at one.

Campbellsville answered at 12:30. Garcia Gancedo supplied Jagroop, who converted the Tigers' first goal to level the match at 1-1.

After Schou denied Filipe Santana in the 22nd minute, Campbellsville moved ahead at the other end. Garcia Gancedo converted a penalty kick at 22:44, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Campbellsville continued to test Murray-Hawkins before halftime. The Southeastern goalkeeper stopped efforts from Mark Horn and Mihlali Blesi in the 35th and 36th minutes, respectively, while Schou saved Ethan Otto's attempt in the 43rd to preserve the Tigers' advantage at the break.

Southeastern increased its pressure early in the second half, earning four corner kicks over the opening 19 minutes. Schou turned away Klein's shot in the 63rd minute before Campbellsville added an insurance goal.

Martinez pushed the advantage to 3-1 at 66:03, scoring his second goal in as many matches.

Schou denied Guilherme Viserta four minutes later, but Southeastern reduced the margin at 75:01 when Lobon scored from Miguel Londono's assist.

Campbellsville remained active going forward rather than conceding possession entirely. Garcia Gancedo forced a save from Murray-Hawkins in the 81st minute, while the Tigers defended two ensuing Southeastern corner kicks without allowing another shot on goal.

The Tigers closed out the final minutes to secure the 3-2 result. Campbellsville finished with nine shots, six on goal and three corner kicks, while Southeastern recorded 10 shots, seven on goal and seven corners.
