CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.– The Campbellsville men's soccer team hosted Georgetown College in a Mid-South Conference duel Wednesday evening where they bested the rival Tigers 3-0.
The Tigers started off the match with two corner kicks due to Campbellsville's determination to score. However, Georgetown were first to take a shot toward the goal. Georgetown launched another shot before Campbellsville was able to take one themselves. Both teams maintained strict defense that kept the other from translating their attacks.
Nathan Schmidli broke through to put the Tigers on the scoreboard with a quick cross to the goal. Not long after, Campbellsville almost collected another goal as
Sebastiano Musu landed a shot right on the crossbar. The Tigers kept pursuing the goal but remained at 1-0 entering the half.
At the half, Campbellsville took a total of nine shots compared the Georgetown's four. Other than the keeper, seven out of the ten Tigers on the field had attempted shots. Georgetown was only able to narrow one shot on goal, but
Christian Hauge snagged it with ease.
Into the second half, Campbellsville continued to advance towards the opposing goal. Georgetown did not ease up either though as they were acquiring attempts at corner kicks as well as several shots on the Tigers' side. Musu increased the Tigers's lead assisted by
Samuel Londono on a beautiful fast break opportunity. Moments later,
Antonio Quinta was received a pass from
Gustav Oskarsson for another goal. As the clock ran out, the Tigers captured the 3-0 win causing Georgetown to suffer their first loss of the season.
Campbellsville will host another Mid-South Conference match this Saturday, October 8
th. The Tigers will compete against Shawnee State University at Finley Stadium beginning at 8p.m. ET.
