CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.– The Tigers hosted the Mid-South Conference Opening Round against the University of Pikeville Tuesday evening. Campbellsville enter round two of the tournament with a 5-0 win over the Bears.
In the opening minutes of the match, Marc Boye optimized a corner kick provided by Samuel Londono as he obtained the Tigers' first goal. Gustav Oskarsson capitalized off a rebound to score the second goal of the match. In the 39th minute, Boye set up for a free kick at the 50-yard line. Oskarsson received Boye's kick and headed the ball in backwards for his second goal of the night. The Tigers led the Bears 3-0 going into the half.
At the half, the Tigers had taken a total of 14 shots versus the Bears two attempted shots. Campbellsville Goalkeeper, Christian Hauge, saved both shots that had come his way.
To begin the second half, Joshua Quigley was placed at goalkeeper for Campbellsville. In the 60th minute Campbellsville took five consecutive shots. Guillermo Ferreiro propelled the Tigers forward 4-0 with a goal in the 80th minute. Ferreiro returned to the Pikeville goal and collected another goal to increase the Tiger's lead. The game concluded with Campbellsville taking the win 5-0.
By the end of the match, the Tigers had taken 29 shots compared to the Bears' seven shots. 15 of Campbellsville's shots had remained on goal, but only five of them rang true. Oskarsson and Ferreiro led the competition with two goals apiece. Ferreiro recorded his season high with two goals in a single match. Hauge and Franco Bruno both collected two saves and Quigley finished the night with one save.
The #6 seed Campbellsville Tigers will travel to #3 University of the Cumberlands on either Friday or Saturday this week for the quarterfinal round.
