Tigers overcome first half deficit to defeat Alice Lloyd and improve to 3-1 on the season

WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The Tigers took on their second contest in the Cumberland's Classic taking on River States Conference matchup Alice Lloyd College Eagles. This game had the perfect story as the Tigers cam from behind to win the game 73-61 after out scoring the eagles by 20 in the second half.

Campbellsville had a slow start out of the gate going down 12-4 to the Eagles as they shot 2 of 11 from the field to open in the first 5 minutes. Tigers still had trouble getting it going halfway through the halfway through the quarter finding themselves down 22-11 and just could not get the ball in the bucket.

At the end of the half started applying some pressure in the back court and getting the eagles out of the comfort zone and slowly started to close the gap after a couple of great possessions offensively and defensive stops at the end of the half they were only down 8 with the score at 30-22. 

Malachi De Sousa led the way with 5 points, and Jarius Key and Keaston Brown right behind him with 4 each. Tigers struggled offensively through the first half shooting 10 of 34 (29.4%) on the half and just 1 for 8 from behind the arc. Active hands was the key for the Tigers to begin to cut down on hot Eagle start with 5 blocks and 3 steals in the contest.  

Coming out of the locker room fired up and were able to erase the deficit and took their first lead of the game 37-35 after an and-one and high efficiency from the charity stripe. Campbellsville spent the half going back and forth with the eagles until approaching the 10 minute-mark when the team started to make a little run and extend a lead to 53-48 this 5-point lead was their highest to this point in the game. The Tigers really started putting their foot on the gas as they continued their run going up to 11-0 run putting them leading by 11 59-48 with 6 minutes to go in the half. Campbellsville continued their second half dominance to go on and secure the win 73-61 outscoring the Eagles by 20 in the second half. 

They finished they the classic out with 5 players in double figures with Key leading the way with 15 points, followed by De Sousa with 14, Brown with 12, and Javaughn Smith and Jay Milburn both with 8. The Tigers improved leaps and bounds after the half time break finishing the game 27 of 66 from the field (40.9%) while also improving on the defensive side of the ball finishing, they game with 8 steals and 7 blocks. 

Campbellsville improves to 3-1 on the season as they look to take on their conference opener against The University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, TN. This game will tip off at 8:30 ET on November 17th as the Tigers look to secure their first win in conference play.
