Tigers best Asbury in penalty kicks in the opening round of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – It took 110 minutes and penalty kicks but the Tigers were able to come away with the win over Asbury University Friday afternoon in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional.

Cold and windy conditions made for a tactical day in Oakland City. Both teams kept the ball on the ground and kept the passes low. In the first half the Tigers out shot the Eagles 6-3 while only putting one of those shots on frame. Campbellsville had a 5-1 advantage in the first half on corner kicks.

In the second half of play, the Tiger offense was able to find the frame of the goal more than the first half. They kept the keeper on his heals with five total shots being saved by the Asbury keeper. At the end of regulation, the score stood at 0-0.

In the first overtime period Campbellsville kept the offensive possession and was able to have one shot in the first 10 minutes. Leading into the second overtime period both teams traded shots back and forth with an even 2-2 final 10 minutes of play.

At the end of the second overtime a total of 32 fouls were called over the course of the 110 minutes played. Tigers committed 15 fouls while Asbury committed 17 fouls.

In penalty kicks. Sebastiano Musu got the Tigers off to a good start making the first one. Marc Boye, Oscar Gustafsson, and Joao Lopes made the next three for Campbellsville. Christian Hauge only conceived three penalties during the shootout with the final shot by Asbury missing its mark.

Campbellsville will now face the winner of Oakland City University and Covenant College on Saturday November 19th for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff time.
