MARSHALL, MO. – Campbellsville had their first official meet of the season at Missouri Valley College over the weekend. The Tigers had a very successful day finishing with six athletes earning placement in their respective weight class.
At 123 lbs. the NAIA runner-up from last season
Leilah Castro made her season debut and earned runner-up on the day. She faced Katie Gomez (Unattached) in the finals where Gomez won in a (10-1 Dec.). At 130 lbs. All-American
Angie Vitiritti placed sixth overall in her bracket. Vitiritti went up against Simon Fraser's Marquesis Haintz and defeated Vitiritti in a (7-0 Dec.).
NAIA runner-up from last season
Emma Walker was able to earn her way to a fourth-place finish on the weekend. Walker saw Southern Oregon's Emily Se in the third-place bout with Se winning in a (2:11 Fall).
Randi Robison joined Walker on the fourth-place stand in the 155 lbs. weight division. Robison wrestled in the third-place final where she met Central Methodist's Caitlyn Davis. At the end of the match Davis won on a (3-2 Dec.).
Kenya Sloan returned to the mat for the first time after winning the 2022 NAIA individual crown at 155 lbs. last season. Sloan placed seventh overall on the day winning her final bout in the seventh place match over Haley Ward (Unattached).
Moving to a new weight class this season,
Liliana Vergara made her debut at 170 lbs. Vergara joined Walker and Robison in the fourth-place grouping for the Tigers. Vergara faced Southern Oregon's Joye Levendusky in the third-place final and fell in a (5-0 Dec.).
Campbellsville looks ahead now to December 2-3 when they travel to Williamsburg, KY for the University of the Cumberlands Duals.
