COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lady Tiger Basketball headed down Highway 55 for their rivalry match-up against the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. Campbellsville improved their record to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference after tonight's win.
Campbellsville was first to appear on the board as
Courtney Pritchett found herself open for a short jumper. The Lady Tigers used their second chances in the paint to stay ahead of the Blue Raiders. Campbellsville's defense kept Lindsey Wilson from making significant advances as The Lady Tigers doubled their lead. The Blue Raiders finished the first quarter shooting 46.2% from the field, trailing slightly to Campbellsville's 50%.
The Lady Tigers' lead was dwindling as Lindsey Wilson began to break through Campbellsville's defense. Halfway through the second quarter, the Lady Tigers improved their shooting. Campbellsville transcended from 50% in field goals to 60% as the quarter continued. Kayla Luebbe quickly rose to the top of the leaderboard for Campbellsville as she racked up 10 points, mainly in the paint. Campbellsville collected 30 points in the area compared to the Blue Raiders' 12 points in the paint. Entering the half, the Lady Tigers led 48-29.
Campbellsville demonstrated their offensive intensity as they busted open their lead early in the competition. The Lady Tigers bested the Blue Raiders in all shooting percentage categories, including field goal (CU 62.5%, LWC 45.8%), three-pointers (CU 28.6%, LWC 10%), and free throws (CU 85.7%, LWC 75%). Kaitlynn Wilks led her team with 11 points and four rebounds, as Luebbe collected 10 points and two rebounds. Bailey Pedigo amassed eight points and five rebounds at the close of the half.
Lindsey Wilson was the only team to score for the first four minutes of the third quarter. Campbellsville had yet to be able to create space to score. The Lady Tigers eventually reappeared on the board as Lauren Lee stepped to the free-throw line. Elizabeth Bertram drove to the basket for another two points to keep the Lady Tigers' stamina going. Lindsey Wilson decreased their deficit with a couple of shots from the arc, but the Lady Tigers did not let that hinder them. Pritchett clutched up at the arc to put Campbellsville ahead by 17-points with a minute of the quarter remaining. After two more buckets from both teams, Campbellsville entered the final quarter 65-47.
Pritchett was first to score Campbellsville in the fourth. She continued to be an offensive powerhouse as her three-pointer put the Lady Tigers at a 21-point lead over the Blue Raiders. Wilks aided Campbellsville's three-point average with her shot from the arc. Wilks returned to the basket for a layup. Wilks's bucket initiated a six-point run interrupted by a Blue Raider jumper. The Lady Tigers resumed their offensive drive with two more layups by Wilks and Lauren Lee. Campbellsville captured the win with a score of 87-64.
By the game's end, the Lady Tigers outperformed Lindsey Wilson offensively. Campbellsville scored 52 points in the paint, whereas the Blue Raiders acquired 24 points. Wilks earned her career high with 22 points in the competition. Wilks led the team in rebound along with Pedigo (11 points) as they collected seven apiece. Pritchett followed with 17 points and six rebounds. Lee and Bertram also scored in the double digits as Lee amassed 13 points and Bertram with ten.
Campbellsville will have their home-opener Thursday, December 1st. The Lady Tigers will host Freed-Hardeman University with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
