WILMORE, Ky. – The Lady Tigers looked to continue their early season dominance by extending their win streak to 10 straight. They successfully defeated the Eagles from Asbury University by a commanding 37-point victory. The win was hard fought through a stout defense that generated quick and easy offense.
The opening quarter for the Lady Tigers and the Eagles started with both teams trading buckets. With the game tied at six three minutes in, Campbellsville could finally take off, and they went on a 14-3 run, putting the Lady Tigers up double-digits 20-9. Campbellsville kept their advantage going into the second quarter with a small seven-point margin, 24-17.
Maddy Boyle led the way for the lady Tigers with eight points on 4-7 shooting.
Beginning the second quarter, the Lady Tigers jumped out on a 9-2 run over the Eagles, increasing their lead to 14, 33-19. The Lady Tigers continued their efficient offensive performance by running up another 17-2 spree, putting them at 50-22 with three minutes left in the quarter. The Lady Tigers ended the impressive period by outscoring the Eagles 32-12. The score at the end of the half was 56-29.
Leading the way for Campbellsville in the first half was Boyle and
Kayla Luebbe, who both had 12 points. Campbellsville built their massive lead off high-percentage shot-taking, going 24 of 36 from the field. It was a trademark selfless half of basketball for the Lady Tigers, also with 11 assists for the team. The tenacious defense of the Lady Tigers also helped the lead with the 13 forced turnovers by Campbellsville.
Campbellsville opened up the third quarter picking up from where they left off the first half with a 12-2 run within the first four minutes. This put the Lady Tigers up 68-31 with a huge 37-point lead. Campbellsville finished the period besting the Eagles' point total, 21-11, with the score sitting at 77-40.
The fourth quarter started with the two teams trading buckets back and forth as the bench got more shine. With two minutes remaining in the contest, the Lady Tigers were ahead of the Eagles by 94-54 and sought to break the 100-point barrier for the fourth time this season. However, Campbellsville could not reach triple digits, and the final score was 96- 59.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Luebbe with 18 points and following her was reigning Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Kaitlynn Wilks with 16 points. Campbellsville shot an impressive 41-69 from the field (59%, their highest of the season) and garnered 24 total assists as well. Defensively, the hard-nosed Tigers wreaked havoc on the Eagles' offense with 19 forced turnovers and 13 steals, and by generating 27 points off those turnovers.
The Lady Tigers' next opponent will be the Shawnee State Bears on December 17th at Powell Athletic Center in Campbellsville, KY. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m. ET.
