MARIETTA, Ga. – The #5 Campbellsville University Lady Tigers voyaged to Marietta, Georgia to face-off against Life University Thursday evening. Campbellsville took home a win and climbed to 22-3 (14-3 MSC) for the season.
The contest between the Lady Tigers and the Eagles was low in much action until
Sarah Sutton made a jump shot to put Campbellsville one-point above the Eagles.
Shyla Calbert followed her teammate to deliver a basket from the arc. Campbellsville was first to enter double-digits on the scoreboard with Sutton's three-pointer. The first quarter closed out in a score of 13-7.
The Eagles mustered up a bucket to begin the second quarter.
Ashlee McGeorge answered this hit with a layup to keep Life at a six-point deficit. The Eagles cut away at the score but found eventually themselves at an 11-point shortfall with a
Maddy Boyle layup. When a minute remained,
Courtney Pritchett knocked down a three and Boyle followed with a shot from the perimeter herself to leave the Eagles trailing by 17 points heading into halftime.
Campbellsville forced Life into 12 turnovers (8 steals) while the Lady Tigers only held three. Boyle led her team at the half with 10 points, Pritchett followed her with nine, and Sutton tallied five. McGeorge totaled six rebounds and Kaitlyn Wilks collected four.
Bailey Pedigo returned to the lineup after an extended absence due to injury and her key layup placed the Lady Tigers at a 20 point lead over the Eagles. Pedigo returned to the basket again to add another two-points to the Lady Tiger advantage. Boyle hit back-to-back threes to keep the deficit in Campbellsville's control. Boyle hit another three with twenty three seconds remaining in the third. This bucket placed her at 5-6 at the arc and meant she had set her career mark for most threes in a game. The Lady Tigers were ahead 27 points going into the final quarter.
Two minutes into the final quarter, McGeorge's layup set the Lady Tigers apart by 31 points. The Eagles placed a few baskets on the board, but Wilks kept the lead at 30 points with her charity stripe makes.
Maddie Nalley secured the largest lead of the game (36 points) with her two shots from the line. The Lady Tigers took the lopsided win 96-41.
Campbellsville continued to force Life into turnovers (18) which they had turned into 23 points to aid their score. The Lady Tigers collected 22 assists compared to the Eagles' nine. Bench points continued to accumulate as Campbellsville finished the evening with 43 total in comparison to Life's eight. Boyle finished the evening with 19 points, her career-high. Prtichett ended the night with nine points while Sutton and Wilks collected eight. Wilks and McGeorge tallied eight rebounds apiece and
Lauren Lee totaled nine assists.
Campbellsville will continue on the road as they travel to the University of Tennessee Southern this Saturday February 12
th. The match will begin at 3 p.m. ET.
