Tigers can't get past Point, Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Tiger Baseball traveled to Alabama for their first games of the season Friday night. The Tigers faced both Point University and University of Mobile, coming up short in both contests.

Game One: Campbellsville 1, Point 8

The Tigers started the game on defense in the field. They began with two quick outs of Point's first two at-bats. Through the first inning, both teams didn't find home plate going into the second scoreless. In the top of the second inning, the Skyhawks were the first on the board with back-to-back hits with the second hit being a grand slam making the score 5-0. The Tigers then went to bat in the bottom of the second and answered with one run scored by Logan Verble. The run came from an RBI by Kevin Whitaker. The Skyhawks then rattled off three more unanswered runs through the sixth inning resulting in an 8-1 loss for the Tigers.

The Tigers had just three hits in the game, one from Whitaker and two from Verble. Zack Bromstead threw a strike percentage of .521, Kam Robertson threw a .593, and Zion Payne threw a .533.

Game Two: Campbellsville 5, Mobile 6

For the second game of the night, the Tigers sought to bolster their offense but didn't see any runs in the opening inning. The Rams scored one run in the first, second, and fourth innings making the score 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth with the Tigers behind. Then things started to fire up for Campbellsville. First was a homerun from Samio Uze which also brought home Josiah Clark. The score was then 3-2 at the top of the fifth. The Rams didn't score in that inning giving CU a chance to take the lead, which they were able to accomplish. Kye Seitz had two RBIs in one at-bat bringing Verble and Cameron Castaneda home for two runs giving the Tigers a 5-3 lead.  In the bottoms of the sixth, Mobile answered those two runs resulting in a tied ball game. The game remained tied through extra innings until the bottom of the ninth when the Rams scored one last run to win the game.

The Tigers had nine hits this game and six pitchers. Kacey Cheek had a .589 strike percentage, Maddux Mateychuk with .444, Luis Lopez with .143, Joshua Lambert with .700, and Deshawn Welch with .531.
