MOBILE, Ala. – Tiger Baseball continued their campaign in Alabama for another day of games on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers faced the University of Mobile and Point University and they fell to both teams by just one run.
Game One: 11 Campbellsville, 12 Mobile
After a scoreless first half inning by the Tigers, the Rams took advantage to score first in the ball game.
Noah Amenta and
Eddy Arteaga reached base via error and walk but were left stranded.
The Tigers put their foot on the gas to score four runs and created a three-run lead over the Rams.
Cameron Castaneda had the first hit of the game for the Tigers.
Josiah Clark and
Tyler Belcher both reached bases by singles leaving the bases loaded for Amenta. Amenta sent a pitch out to right field scoring Whitaker and Clark.
Jorge Gonzalez sent a pitch to left field giving the Tigers back-to-back RBIs scoring Amenta.
The Rams answered back and tied the score, 4-4.
Joseph Ranford came in to relieve
Joshua Lambert and was called for a balk allowing the Rams to score yet another run. The Rams took to a 5-4 lead over the Tigers.
Errors continued into the fourth inning for the Tigers. The Rams capitalized on the mistakes to score another run creating a two-run lead over the Tigers.
At the bottom of the fifth inning,
Deshawn Welch came into pitch for the Tigers. With more errors from the Tigers, the Rams created a 7-4 lead.
At the bottom of the sixth inning,
Jackson Izatt came into pitch for the Tigers. The Rams were held scoreless going into the top of the seventh.
Several Tigers came into the ball game to pinch hit:
Kye Seitz,
Sam Fagerness, and
Alex Castaneda. With a 2-2 count, two outs, and the bases loaded,
Cameron Castaneda hit a grand slam. This gave the Tigers a one-run lead over the Rams. Clark reached base via walk and Gonzalez sent a pitch out to left center advancing Clark into scoring position. Whitaker sent a pitch down the right-field line scoring Clark. Then, Amenta hit a two-run single scoring Whitaker and
Kye Seitz. With errors on the Rams, Amenta advanced to second base and left Gonzalez on first. On a wild pitch, both runners advanced up a base putting them in scoring position. At the end of an eventful inning, the Tigers took to a four-run lead over the Rams, 11-7.
With a few errors on the Tigers, the Rams battled back to score one run, 11-8. With the bases loaded, the Rams had the tying run at first base and the winning run at home.
Luis Lopez came into pitch for the Tigers. After an RBI single by the Rams, they scored another run and still had the bases loaded. The errors continued; the Rams tied the game at 11-11. The Rams hit a single up the middle, scoring the final run of the game. The Tigers fell to the Rams, 12-11.
The Tigers had 13 hits, 11 RBIs, and three stolen bases. The Tigers used five pitchers with a combined total of 133 pitches.
Game Two: 0 Campbellsville, 1 Point
It was a scoreless first half inning for the Tigers and an error brought Point to an early one-run lead.
At the top of the third inning, Clark sent a pitch out to center field for the first hit of the game for the Tigers. He was later caught stealing to give Point their first out of the inning. At the bottom of the third inning,
Chad McCann came in to relieve
Caleb Thompson at the mound. The Tigers struggled at the plate and were striking out or hitting directly to the fielders. They went three up, three down for five straight innings.
Clark broke the five-inning-long streak hitting a single. A ground ball by
Grant McQueary advanced Clark into scoring position.
Kale Seitz reached first base off an error.
Alex Castaneda came into the ball game to pinch run for
Kale Seitz. Whitaker reached base via walk creating loaded bases for Amenta. He hit a line drive to second base for out number two.
Samio Uze was sent in to pinch hit for Gonzalez. At that point, all the runners were left stranded and the Tigers fell to Point, 1-0.
Campbellsville pitched 82 total pitches compared to Point's 88. The Tiger's strike percentage was .598 against Point's .670. The Tigers had just two hits on the game, both belonging to Clark.
The Tigers are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, February 15th as they will be on the road again against Midway University. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 P.M. ET.
