LEBANON, Ill. — The #4 Campbellsville University Lady Tigers took to Illinois on Saturday afternoon to participate in the Bearcat Open hosted by McKendree University. 30 teams participated and the Lady Tigers posted many wins in the final regular season competition.
In the 101 lb. division,
Gabrielle Medieros took her opening two matches (both with pinfalls) before falling and heading to the consolation bracket where she was pinned in her first contest.
Mia Diaz fell in her opening bout via technical fall, but in the secondary bracket she picked up a pinfall win in just 15 seconds before a decision loss in her next match.
For the 109 lb. bracket,
Kelsey Bilz was the only competitor. Despite dropping her first match, Bilz rattled off three straight victories in consolation before losing a tight 6-4 decision.
The 123 pounders saw
Jacqueline Ghent pick up two wins (one via technical fall 12-0 and the other a decision 10-4) before dropping the quarterfinal matchup in a decision. In the 130 lb. division,
Taylor Howell won her opening round match via technical fall 10-0 before a close loss in the subsequent round in a 5-4 decision.
Angie Vitiritti also competed grabbing a 7-2 decision win in her first round and a 13-5 decision in the second before falling herself in a battle of inches to a 6-4 decision.
Emma Walker, in the 143 lb. bracket, won in only 20 seconds in her first match before getting a technical fall 10-0 in the second round and a pinfall at 3:33 in the third. Walker would have her first loss of the season in the quarterfinals via technical fall 10-0.
Brelane Huber joined Walker in the tournament grabbing two wins of her own including a 1:28 pin before falling in the third round.
Kendra Thompson and
Kenya Sloan competed in the 155 lb. division. Thompson picked up a single 7-6 decision victory while Sloan posted two wins with a technical fall 10-0 and pinfall at 1:34. Sloan made it to the quarterfinals before being knocked out in a 6-0 decision.
For the 170 lb. division,
Sierra Chavez lost her first match bringing her to the consolation bracket where she won two matches (one via technical fall 10-0 and the other a 4-2 decision). In the lower half of the bracket,
Leilani Martinez captured a 3-1 decision and a 27 second pinfall before being bested via technical fall 10-0.
Brianna Staebler made it to the quarterfinals in the 191 lb. division with 42 second and 1:26 pinfalls before succumbing to a pinfall herself in 1:53.
Liliana Vergara joined her in the bracket picking up a couple pinfall victories too (at 2:50 and 1:58) thus reaching the quarterfinals herself before losing a decision 13-5.
Next, Campbellsville women's wrestling will be hitting the mat in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the Mid-South Conference tournament. That will begin this coming weekend February 20
th.
