Blocks buoy Tigers above Central State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers were back in action Friday night in Gosser Gymnasium where they hosted Central State University. The Tigers won the match in four sets giving them their seventh win of the season.

Central State opened set one with the first point. The teams then traded points until Campbellsville started to expand their lead a little bit. Towards the end of the set, Campbellsville saw their largest lead with the score being 18-14. The Tigers took off with that advantage going on a 6-2 run. CSU started to creep into the Tiger's lead and eventually tied the score up, 24-24. Once again, the teams started going back and forth, point for point. A few possessions later, the Tigers went ahead 28-27 but Central State went on to take the lead and secure the first set, 30-28.

Set two saw the Tigers as the first ones on the board this time. It seemed that the team had a renewed vigor after the war that was the opening set. The Tigers then went on a 7-1 scoring run, but CSU would answer with a few points of their own. The teams started to trade points again, but then the Tigers grew the lead, 15-9. To round out the second set, CU took over with a 10-5 run and won the second set to tie up the match.

The third set of the match was similar to the second set as the Tigers started out with an 8-1 run. Campbellsville started to show their dominant presence at the net with quite a few blocks that resulted in points. The Tigers were dominant on the offensive side and won the third set, 25-15.

In the fourth and final set, Campbellsville kicked things off with a 4-1 run. Central State started to heat up and scored a few points, but the Tigers maintained their momentum for the sets prior and exerted full control of the match. The Tigers' hitting proved to be too much as Campbellsville took over with a 6-2 spurt to close out the set and won 25-15 again.

The Tigers won the match and were led by Bastian Korreck with ten kills, six block assists, and four digs. Drew Sims followed him with nine kills and six block assists. Bastiaan Van Houten had eight kills and five digs. Jakob Zum Kolk, Niklas Held, and Ryan Smith each had seven kills. Smith also had 33 assists in the game and Jay Montalvo had 19 digs in the game.
