CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University ESPORTS team had three groups in action two weeks ago.
First up was the Rocket League bunch. This was their season opener in the Aces Collegiate Series. They would meet up with Winder University, who finished runner-up last year in the series. Playing for the Tigers was Simon Coy, Nate Sampson, and the newcomer, McQueary. Campbellsville was able to come through with an upset beating Winder U. in a best-of-three set. Everyone played a pivotal role in the upset bid. Coy would finish with four goals, five saves, one assist, and eight shots for a total of 1,410 points. Sampson also had a productive outing with one goal, six saves, and six shots for 969 points. McQueary also finished over 1,000 points with his two goals, one assist, three saves, and eight shots.
The Smash Varsity also debuted in their opener of the Aces Collegiate Series. They would meet up with Western Colorado University. The Tigers put up a strong fight getting through WCU but were unable to finish off their last play. Appearing for CU was Dalton Khem playing King K. Rool. He was able to take five big stocks before falling. Darrel Dick selected Pac-Man and took one stock. Cody Spalding played King DeDeDe taking two stocks. Jeffery Short playing Pyra & Mythra and Timothy Terrel playing R.O.B. combined for the last eight stocks. Terrel had a great match leading the Tigers in most stocks taken this season.
Smash Academy was also in action of the NACE Spring Cup. They matchup up with George Washington University A. Following in the footsteps of the Varsity, they were able to get to the last player on GWU but couldn't finish them off. Jeffery Short played Lucina and was able to steal four stocks. Araujo Saenz playing R.O.B. took two stocks. Zachary Brady chose Wolf and was able to take three stocks before falling. Last was John-Luke Roberts playing Young Link, taking two stocks before exiting.
