COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Campbellsville University men's basketball traveled to Lindsey Wilson College to compete against the Blue Raiders. The Tigers lost the "Battle of Highway 55" in a score of 64-53.
Lindsey Wilson began quickly in the first half to put a lead on the Tigers. It wasn't until four minutes in that
Jarius Key's layup got the Tigers on the board. Campbellsville was falling to Lindsey 11-2 due to less than stellar shooting. The Tigers were 1-8 from the field goal and 0-4 at the arc. Campbellsville was getting out rebounded 9-2 and Blue Raider defense made it difficult for the Tigers to find clean looks. Lindsey Wilson found their first double-digit lead at 18-8 and grossed their largest lead of 16 points before the halftime buzzer sounded. The half ended with two charity shots from Malachi de Sousa to place the Tigers trailing 31-17.
Campbellsville's shots simply weren't falling as they collected a total of five out of 23 attempts and two of 13 shots from the arc. The Blue Raiders were besting the Tigers in the paint too as they had earned 18 points versus the six points Campbellsville had made in the area.
Jace Wallace was the first Tiger to score in the second half. Wallace went on a 5-0 run for his team but it was not enough compared to the intensity that Lindsey displayed. The Blue Raiders acquired a 22-point lead with 16 minutes left of play.
Darius Harding cut into the Tiger's deficit with a deep three.
Peyton Broughton followed his teammate to nail a basket from the top of the perimeter. After his three, Broughton went on a solo run to rack up seven points. Campbellsville managed to reign in the Blue Raiders to a 13-point gap, but the difference widened to 18 points not long after. Harding drove to the hoop to receive a basket and a foul which put the score at 58-43. As a minute remained,
Cameron Willis's three-pointer decreased the Tiger's shortfall. Unable to recover from the Blue Raiders' blistering start, the Tigers ultimately fell to Lindsey Wilson 64-53.
Campbellsville did not allow themselves many second chances as they were outrebounded 10-4 offensively and 38-23 as a whole. The Tigers did not move the ball around as much as the Blue Raiders either concluding with a total of five assists compared to the 14 of Lindsey Wilson. Harding led his team with 17 points and Broughton followed with 16.
Ross Ryan collected six rebounds while Wallace and Broughton collected five each.
The Tigers are set to return to the hardwood this Saturday hosting Cumberland University. The match will begin at 4 p.m. ET.
