CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted Cumberland University at Powell Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. Campbellsville fell to Cumberland University 83-76.

Sam Weining evened the score with his own shot from the arc. After some Cumberland fight, Wening went on a solo seven-point run scoring 10 out of the 11 points on the board.
Malachi De Sousa brought on four points of his own to place the Tigers above the Phoenix by three.
Ross Ryan went to the paint to earn a basket and a foul to earn back the lead after trading it back and forth with Cumberland. Cumberland continued to chase the Tiger's lead, but
Darius Harding pulled up from three to increase the deficit. The Phoenix received their first lead at 3:37 since they had attained it prior at 10:37. However, De Sousa answered this with a dunk to take back the lead. Consecutive threes and a layup from Cumberland placed the Phoenix above the Tigers by eight. The first half closed 43-35 in Phoenix favor.
At the half, Campbellsville is leading the Phoenix in three-pointers and free throws and only falling in field goals by 5%. Cumberland had been moving the ball around more than the Tigers with their five assists versus the 10 of their competitors. Weining led his team with 12 points and De Sousa followed with 11. De Sousa went into the half with five rebounds.
Weining came out early in the second half with a layup assisted by
Jace Wallace. Cumberland held the Tigers at a nine-point deficit, but Campbellsville mustered buckets to return the game to a one possession ballgame. De Sousa's free throw put Campbellsville trailing by one. Ryan's jumper earned Campbellsville their first lead since the score stood at 33-32. The Phoenix managed to regain a six-point advantage with a couple of shots from the perimeter. De Sousa delivered consecutive layups to bring the deficit back down to two. The Phoenix climbed to a seven-point lead; however, De Sousa went to the basket for the make and a foul. These two buckets established De Sousa's new season high at 25 points. As a minute and a half remained, the Phoenix attained a nine-point stronghold over the Tigers. The match ended in a score of 83-76 as Cumberland took the win.
At the end of the game, Campbellsville and Cumberland tallied even numbers in rebounds (25) and points in the paint with 38. The Phoenix shot nearly 60% from the field for the game though compared to the Tigers' 52%. De Sousa tallied 29 points and eight rebounds, Weining totaled 14 points, and Ryan finished with 13 points. Wallace totaled five rebounds and five assists.
Campbellsville will travel to Georgetown, Ky to compete against #21 Georgetown College Monday February 7th. Tip-off is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
