GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Tigers traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky to take on the #13 Tigers of Georgetown College on Monday night. Campbellsville fell to the Tigers of Georgetown with a score of 78-49.
Just one minute into the ballgame, Keaston Brown scored the first points after a rebound by Sam Weining. The Tigers took an early 4-0 lead over Georgetown. Jarius Key scored his first points of the game, giving Campbellsville a one-point lead. Jace Wallace added his first points to the scoreboard at 8-6 in Campbellsville's favor. Malachi De Sousa was sent to the line where he went two-for-two and gave Campbellsville a 10-8 lead. With only eight minutes of play into the ballgame, the Tigers were tied at 10.
Darius Harding made a layup to add his name to the scoreboard, giving Campbellsville the two-point advantage. The teams traded the lead time and time again in the opening half. With a few minutes remaining before halftime, the Tigers of Georgetown set off on a 12-point run, giving Campbellsville a ten point deficit. At that point, the Tigers went over five minutes without scoring. De Sousa stopped Georgetown after the rattled off 15 straight points. With a little under a minute and a half left in the first, Campbellsville was behind 36-18. A buzzer-beater layup by sent Georgetown into halftime with the lead, 38-20.
To open the second half, Weining nailed a three-point shot. The Tigers were able to add five points to their score, trying to cut into Georgetown's advantage. Key and Brown worked together to try to kickstart Campbellsville's advance. A pair of buckets by Key brought the score to 46-29. With a little under 15 minutes left in the game, Georgetown grabbed a 21-point lead, 52-31. Campbellsville was unable to rally and ignite true opposition against Georgetown's sizeable second half lead. Carmical would hit the last buckets of the game for the Tigers finishing the game 78-49.
The top Tiger, Key, led with 13 points. Carmical and Brown followed with 9 and 8 points, respectively. The Tigers had a difficult time shooting. They shot 29 percent from the field and 11 percent from the three-point range. A bright spot however was at the charity stripe where they shot 86 percent.
Next, the Tigers will head to Life University in Marietta, Georgia. The contest will be on Thursday and is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
