CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #4 Lady Tigers hosted Cumberland University at Powell Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. Campbellsville put the Phoenix away with a score of 79-53.
To begin the first quarter, the Lady Tigers pushed to a 7-0 lead above the Phoenix. Cumberland was unable to score until they were awarded the free throw almost two and a half minutes in.
Courtney Pritchett's basket and a foul earned her team an 11-point advantage over the Phoenix. Cumberland's six consecutive points decreased their deficit to five as the first quarter ended 18-13.
The second quarter started unhurried as
Kaitlynn Wilks was first to score two minutes in. Pritchett put up big basket from the arc to extend her team's lead.
Sarah Sutton entered the game with a swift layup that propelled the Lady Tiger advantage to 12. Pritchett's charity shots left the Lady Tigers with a 13-point hold over the Phoenix making it the largest lead of the match.
At the half, Pritchett led her team with 15 points and Lee followed her with eight. Prtichett acquired five rebounds and
Faith Lake trailed her with four. The Lady Tigers have been awarded 13 attempts at the stripe versus the six that Cumberland had been awarded. Campbellsville sat at 100 percent from the free throw line.
The second half of play began with an
Ashlee McGeorge layup. in the next possession, Lake returned with a bucket from the arc. Lee's jumpshot exceeded the game's prior largest lead, now at 18 points. Cumberland was unable to keep the Lady Tigers away from the charity stripe and earn shots from the line themselves. Lake's layup boosted Campbellsville's lead to 20 above the Phoenix. The Lady Tiger's advantage kept climbing as Cumberland was unable to decrease their deficit. The third quarter ended in a score of 62-36.
In the final quarter,
Elizabeth Bertram made an appearance to add another two points to the Lady Tiger score. Cumberland clawed at their shortfall, but Sutton pulled up from the perimeter to restore all advances the Phoenix had made. Sutton returned to the arc in the Lady Tiger's next possession for another three-point basket. Wilks' basket and a foul placed the Phoenix down 30 points. The game ended with Campbellsville victorious 79-53.
Prichett ended the afternoon with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sutton acquired 14 points, Lee with 12, and Wilks followed with 11 points. McGeorge collected seven rebounds and Lake finished with five. Campbellsville made all 20 shots they had been awarded from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded the Phoenix 41 to 23. The Lady Tigers pushed the ball around as they accumulated 19 assisted compared to the Phoenix's seven. Campbellsville used the bench and the paint to their advantage as they earned 42 points in the paint and 31 points from the bench.
Next, Campbellsville will travel to Georgetown, Ky to compete against (RV) Georgetown College Monday February 7th. Tip-off is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
