Stellar defense leads Lady Tigers to win over Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The #4 Lady Tigers traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky to take on the Tigers of Georgetown College on Monday night. Campbellsville put Georgetown away with a score of 68-53. 

To begin the first quarter, Ashlee McGeorge scored the first points of the ballgame. Just three minutes into the game, the Georgetown Tigers took a 7-6 lead. Eventually, the Tigers extended to a five-point lead over the Lady Tigers. Lauren Lee halted the Tiger's run with a quick layup. Sarah Sutton shot a three-pointer to cut the Tiger's lead down to five. The Lady Tigers went into the second quarter down 18-13. 

The second quarter started with Faith Lake scoring for the Lady Tigers with a set of free throws. Courtney Pritchett cut the Tigers to a two-point lead after making a jump shot three-pointer, along with a free throw. A layup by Kaitlynn Wilk left the score knotted at 25. The game went back and forth, with both teams taking turns edging ahead. With just three minutes left in the second quarter, the Lady Tigers took a 29-27 lead over the Tigers. Maddy Boyle sustained the lead for the Lady Tigers with a conversion at the charity stripe. At the end of the second quarter, the Lady Tigers led the Georgetown Tigers by just one point, 32-31.

Going into the second half, Lake led the Tigers with 10 points. Pritchett was not too far behind with 8 points. The Lady Tigers were shooting 44 percent from the field goal range, compared to Georgetown's 35 percent. 

After a strong second quarter, the Lady Tigers started the third with an easy layup by Lake. The Lady Tigers continued to attack from the inside knowing the Tigers were avoiding more fouls. McGeorge sank two free throws and gave the Lady Tigers a four point lead, 39-35. Wilks helped the Lady Tigers take a six-point lead. With just under five minutes left in the third quarter, the Lady Tigers led the Tigers of Georgetown 43-36. McGeorge then extended the Lady Tigers to a double digit advantage, 46-36. The Tigers of Georgetown began to cut into the Lady Tiger's lead, but Campbellsville took a 9-2 run to lead by 11 at the end of the third quarter, 57-44. 

To begin the fourth and final quarter, the Lady Tigers were ahead by 13 points. Lake and McGeorge helped the Lady Tigers' offense stay hot. Pritchett took the Lady Tigers to a 17-point lead, 66-49. A layup by Lake gave the Lady Tigers their final points of the game at 68-53.

Lake led the Tigers with 18 points on the night. Pritchett and McGeorge weren't too far behind with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Lady Tigers shot 45 percent at field goal range, 30 percent at three-point range, and 85 percent from the free throw line. 

The Lady Tigers will next head to Life University in Marietta, Georgia. The contest will be on Thursday and is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
