Errors hurt Tigers in defeat against Mount Vernon Nazarene

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Tigers traveled to face Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) Friday night. The last time these two teams met the Tigers swept the Cougars in three sets. This time, however, the Tigers captured only one of four sets falling 3-1.

The first set started with the teams trading points and it stayed close in score until Mount Vernon scored three points in a row to take a four-point lead. The Tigers battled back and scored four points in a row to tie it up. Campbellsville was down four points again but a few kills and a few errors brought them back within one point. Eric Heller tied up the set at 24 each. The excitement of the set continued as the teams battled for the win where Campbellsville eventually won 28-26.

Mount Vernon came off the thrill of the first set dominant over the Tigers. They scored the first four points of the set before Campbellsville was able to record their first. The Cougars then went on a 7-0 scoring run. The Tigers tried to rally back but couldn't find their grove accumulating many errors in their attempt. Mount Vernon scored four straight points which sealed the set win for them 25-14. The Tigers had nine errors in this set compared to the Cougars' two.

Throughout set three and four, attack errors were the Tigers' biggest opponent. The Tigers tallied up eight more in the third set although the score remained close throughout it. Mount Vernon pulled away with the lead as a result of some of those errors and won the third set 25-20. In the fourth set, Campbellsville honed their focus and avoided the plague of errors that they suffered in sets prior. Both teams made four errors each. The Tigers and the Cougars went tit-for-tat and it was a fight until the end. The Tigers couldn't catch the lead though as Mount Vernon scored their 25th and won the set 25-23.

The Tigers had 46 errors and the Cougars had 32. Mount Vernon had six total aces while Campbellsville only had one. The Tigers were led in kills by Bastian Korreck with 16. He was followed by Heller with 13 and Drew Sims with eight.
