Five athletes still in national title contention, Campbellsville ahead by 25.5 points after day one

JAMESTOWN, ND – Lady Tigers are in control and have five still in individual national champion contention after day one at the national championships. 
 
Leilah Castro, Randi Robison, Kenya Sloan, Kendra Thompson, and Emma Walker are all still in the hunt for the individual titles in their respective weight classes.
 
"The team wrestled very well today," said Coach Miracle. "I'm proud of all the All-Americans, and my heart breaks for those who lost on the bubble. We will need to wrestle very well tomorrow to have a chance at winning this."
 
Castro was able to earn two early pins on in her day. In the quarter-final match this evening was the first match where she won by decision by a score of 4-0 over Menlo Colleges Alana Vivas.
 
Robison was on a roll throughout the course of the day, earning key bonus points in each of her matches getting the pins. She reached the semi-finals match tomorrow with her victory over Jordan Suarez.
 
Sloan, who has been on a comeback this season after an injury sidelined her the previous season worked her way to tomorrow's semi-final matchup. She will face Sadie Antoque. Sloan reached the match earning four key victories on the day and only conceding one point. 
 
Thompson had a similar score line to Sloan. Thompson only allowed one point scored on her all day. She was able to earn the 5-0 victory in the quarter-final matchup against Brooke-lynn Rush of Missouri Valley.
 
Walker has been dominant throughout the tournament so far. Walker had to put work in this evening to reach the semi-final match going against Josette Partney of Missouri Baptist. Walker would go on to win the match 8-4. 
 
Campbellsville still has three athletes alive in the consolation bracket. McKayla Campbell, Katlyn Pizzo, Liliana Vergara.
 
Campbell worked her way back to make it to tomorrow's matches after her loss in the quarter-final match. Campbell went 3-1 on the day and finishing off with a 4-0 win over Ashley Tobe to keep her alive.
 
Pizzo had key bonus points come her way throughout the day. She kept herself alive through the bracket 4-1 and reaching Saturday's competition with a 8-0 over De'anna Prince of Wayland Baptist.
 
Vergara is the final athlete that is alive and is an All-American moving on to Saturday's bouts. Vergara began her day with two key tech falls and going 3-1 on the day. She won her final match of the day with a pin over Kelly Lacost.
 
Brelane Huber, Jacqueline Ghent, Kelsey Bilz, and Mia Diaz have been knocked out of the tournament after the first day. Wrestlers had to lose twice in order to be knocked out of contention.
 
Campbellsville currently has 131.5 points and a 25.5 point lead over Southern Oregon. Lady Tigers have kept their lead throughout the tournament earning bonus points from tech falls and pins in matches. 
 
Life University and Campbellsville have the same amount of wrestlers still in contention to win an individual title with five on each side. Southern Oregon leads all teams with nine wrestlers still able to wrestle on Saturday.
 
Competition will resume on Saturday March 12th at 10 a.m. CT. Fans can tune into FloWrestling to follow along.
