Lady Tigers advance to NAIA Round of 16 with rout over Benedictine

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #1 seed Lady Tigers basketball team competed in the championship of the NAIA opening round against the #8 Benedictine Ravens. Campbellsville finished 74-44 against the Ravens.

Benedictine knew to strike first to get the upper hand with a quick layup. After trading a few possessions, Lauren Lee opted for the jumpshot to get her team their first lead. Courtney Pritchett followed suit after her teammate and nailed a jumpshot of her own. Her bucket placed Campbellsville four points above the Ravens. Benedictine attempted a comeback but a layup from Kaitlyn Wilks and a Pritchett basket from the arc increased the Raven's deficit.

In the second quarter, the Lady Tiger's first shot was from Pritchett with another three-pointer. Campbellsville opened the lead to double-digits as back-to-back layups from Faith Lake and Ashlee McGeorge rang true. The Ravens were awarded a couple free throws to scratch at the trail, but Sarah Sutton made the arc her own as she sent buckets from the left and right side. The Lady Tiger's shooting was sizzling as they continued to go on point-runs. Campbellsville's lead blew open to 25 points with three-point buckets from Maddy Boyle and Sutton accompanied by two more Pritchett baskets. The Lady Tigers were shooting an 85.7 percent from the perimeter compared to the Ravens who had missed all their attempts. As the half came to a close, Campbellsville sat at a 64 percent in field-goals in comparison to Benedictine's 27.3 percent.

Campbellsville defense kept the Ravens from scoring double-digit numbers in both quarters. The Lady Tigers propelled their lead with their nine defensive rebounds they had collected. Benedictine, at that point, had only acquired six rebounds total. Pritchett was on a roll as she led with 14 points and Sutton wasn't far behind with her nine points. Sutton had 25 percent of the Lady Tigers total rebounds with three of the team's 12.

Campbellsville's shooting remained smoldering as Lexy Lake popped a three only 12 seconds into the third. She returned to the corner for another three-point basket that sat Campbellsville one below a 30-point lead. After an actionless three minutes, the Ravens scratched at their discrepancy. Intensity went up and so did the action as both teams traded baskets, but Campbellsville kept the Ravens at a considerable deficit.

As the final quarter approached, McGeorge made the first basket two minutes in. Boyle busted the lead open to 31 points as she followed McGeogre with another layup. Benedictine continued to remain tough and make the Lady Tigers fight for possession. Ashanti Gore broke through the defense to secure a layup. Madison Drummonds shadowed Gore as she also broke through Raven defense to assure the final bucket of the evening.

Pritchett finished the night with 16 points while Sutton and Lexy Lake both tallied 12 points. Campbellsville collected 24 assists compared to the Ravens' nine, ten of which belonged to Lee. The Lady Tigers continued to shoot well as they closed the contest.

Campbellsville will now travel to Sioux City, Iowa for the NAIA Round of 16. The tournament will continue Thursday, March 17th. The game time will be announced at a later date.
