Tigers take five set thriller over Blue Devils

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers were back home in Gosser Gymnasium Wednesday night where they hosted Lawrence Tech University and won the match in five sets.  
 
To start off set one, Lawrence Tech took a quick 5-1 lead. The Tigers committed a few errors which allowed the Blue Devils to extend their lead. Campbellsville trailed by seven points, 16-9, in search of a scoring run of their own. The Tigers couldn't find that spark as they kept making errors. Towards the end of the set, CU scored four straight points and found themselves within two points. Drew Sims made his presence known as he served an ace and got the Tigers within one point. LTU made their third error of the set and tied up the score at 22 each. Campbellsville then took their first lead of the set 23-22 off an ace from Jose Viera-Cerame. The Tigers went on to win that set 25-23 despite their eight attack errors. Sims led Campbellsville with six kills out of their 13 total.  
 
Lawrence Tech started the second set with the first two points, but as the play went on the Tigers kept it close. The Tigers remained within three points of the Blue Devils for the majority of the set. Lawrence Tech then took a four-point lead after Campbellsville committed some errors. The Tigers then took over again and found themselves within one. The Tigers had a service error which gave LTU their 25th point and tied the match 1-1. After the second set, Bastian Korreck led the Tigers with nine kills and Sims followed him with seven. Campbellsville also cut their errors in half that set only committing four.  
 
The Tigers started the third set with their biggest lead of the match after scoring the first three points. The Tigers went on to score four more straight before the Blue Devils scored their first point. The teams then started trading points as the Tigers kept their lead. LTU started to cut into the Tigers' advantage but Jakob Zum Kolk made it set point, 24-17. Eric Heller and Sims got the block and sent the ball back to score the last point and the Tigers took set three. Sims was back to leading the Tigers with 10 kills after the third set. Zum Kolk and Korreck followed him with nine kills each.  
 
In the fourth set, the teams started off trading points. Campbellsville would score then Lawrence Tech would score and neither team would take off with a lead. The Tigers had a few more attack errors which gave the Blue Devils a two-point lead. The Blue Devils scored their set point which made the score 24-21 and Campbellsville took a timeout. Coming out of that timeout, Zum Kolk had another kill. Lawrence Tech forced set five though winning the set 25-22.  
 
The 15-point fifth set started with the Tigers scoring the first two points. The Blue Devils answered by scoring the next two points. The Tigers stayed fighting for the win as Zum Kolk had back-to-back kills. Towards the end of the set, the Tigers took a five-point lead off of a 6-1 run. Lawrence Tech battled back and found themselves within two points of the Tiger's lead, 12-10. Korreck and Sims had a huge block to make it set point. The Blue Devils scored one more point before Sims put the match to rest with the final score of the night.  
 
The match was very close statistically as it was with the score. Campbellsville had 25 attack errors compared to Lawrence Tech's 23. The Tigers were led by Korreck with 16 kills. Kolk and Sims followed him with 15 kills each.  Jason Camacho also aided the Tigers with 51 assists on the night.  
 
The Tigers will be back in action Friday, March 11th traveling to Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio). The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.
