Tigers trounce Georgetown by double-digit runs

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers baseball team traveled to (RV) Georgetown College Friday afternoon for game one of their three-game series with the rival Tigers. Campbellsville took down Georgetown in an 11-1 victory. 

Samio Uze didn't wait to start things off for the Tigers with a lead off double to begin the ball game. Jorge Gonzalez singled and advanced Uze into scoring position at third base. A sacrifice ground out from Noah Amenta sent Jorge Gonzalez to second and Uze across the plate for the first run of the game. Brady Tedesco and the Tigers' defense retired all three of the Georgetown batters to go into the second inning. 

With one out, Uze singled to begin the top half of the third inning. Amenta singled and sent Uze in to score for the second time. Amenta was left on base to go into the bottom half of the inning. 

Chad McCann singled but was picked off in the top of the fourth inning. To begin the fifth inning, Eddy Arteaga singled to reach base and was swapped by Kevin Whitaker. He then stole second. Arteaga advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Arteaga scored on a sacrifice from Uze. Jorge Gonzalez singled but was left on base.  

Arteaga singled to begin the seventh inning. Whitaker came in to pinch run for Arteaga and stole second. Alex Castaneda reached base via walk. With runners at first and second, Uze tripled and sent Whitaker and Castaneda across the plate. On a sacrifice fly from Jorge Gonzalez, Uze went home to score to give the Tigers a six-run lead over Georgetown. During the bottom of the seventh inning, Ryan McFarland relieved Tedesco on the mound. After an error on the Tigers' defense, Georgetown put a runner on base. A single from Georgetown scored the base runner to give them their first run of the ball game. 

Jacob White led off the eighth inning with a single. Cameron Castaneda reached base via walk and advanced White to second base. Grant McQueary entered to pinch hit and singled to score White. Arteaga doubled to score Cameron Castaneda and advanced McQueary to third base. Whitaker came in to pinch run for Arteaga and Kale Seitz stepped up to pinch hit. Kale Seitz reached base on a dropped third strike and scored McQueary. Alex Castaneda swapped in to pinch run for Kale Seitz. Whitaker scored before the final out of the inning. The Tigers had a nine-run advantage over Georgetown to go into the bottom of the eighth. Mason Lee entered to relieve McFarland on the mound. 

Jorge Gonzalez doubled to start off the ninth inning. Jorge Gonzalez scored on a sacrifice fly from White. Cameron Castaneda singled to reach base and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Kye Seitz came in to pinch hit and reached base on a dropped third strike. Cameron Castaneda and Kye Seitz were left on base. Campbellsville defeated Georgetown 11-1. 

The Tigers had 14 total hits with Jorge Gonzalez, Uze, and Arteaga each having three. The Tigers had three different pitchers with a combined total of 121 pitches with a strike percentage of .711. 

Campbellsville will be back in action Saturday to complete the last two games of the series. The games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET and 3 p.m. ET.
