Tigers split day two against Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Tigers were in Georgetown Saturday afternoon for a Mid-South Conference double-header. Campbellsville won the first game of the day but lost the second.  
 
Game one: Campbellsville 4, Georgetown 3 
 
The first inning started three up, three down for both teams. In the top of the second frame Campbellsville had two hits but couldn't convert those to runs. The Tigers ended their at bat with two left on base. In the bottom of the second, Georgetown had one left on base but no hits. Going into the third inning, the score stayed tied at zero.  
 
In the top of the third, Campbellsville got their bats going and scored four runs. Alex Castaneda was the first on base after being hit by a pitch. He then stole second after a wild pitch was thrown. Jorge Gonzales was the next Tiger on base after he got hit by a pitch as well. Noah Amenta hit a double and brought home Castaneda and Gonzales. Jacob White then had an RBI which brought Amenta across home plate and White stood on second base. Eddy Arteaga hit another double and brought White home to score the fourth run. Campbellsville had one left on base as Georgetown got the third out. In the bottom of the third, Georgetown was able to score two runs and didn't leave a runner on base.  
 
The fourth frame was scoreless for Campbellsville even though they had one hit. Georgetown brought themselves within one run in the bottom of the fourth after they hit their second home run of the game. Campbellsville kept the lead 4-3 going into the fifth inning where both teams only had one hit each and neither team scored a run. Campbellsville didn't have anyone left on base while Georgetown had two left on. In the sixth, Campbellsville left one on base and didn't score a run; CU then got quick three outs while Georgetown was at bat. The score remained 4-3 going into the seventh inning as Campbellsville kept the one run lead. The last frame started with CU's first three batters getting out, two of them eing strikeouts swinging. Georgetown wrapped up the game with one hit but no runs scored and Campbellsville won 4-3. 
 
The Tigers saw two pitchers on the mound for the first game. Alex Salazar started the game and pitched five innings. Luis Lopez closed the game as he pitched the last two frames. There were 95 pitches thrown between the both of them and they combined for a .663 strike percentage. Salazar only allowed five hits and three runs and only walked three batters. Lopez only allowed one hit and didn't have any runs or walks. Jacob White led the team in hits with two and the rest of the total were spread out even. Amenta had two RBIs this game. White and Artega followed him with one RBI each.  
 
Game two: Campbellsville 2, Georgetown 4 
 
The second game started with the first two Campbellsville batters getting out. Then Amenta hit a single to right field but got out on the next play. Kacey Cheek was the starting pitcher for the CU and went the first inning without a hit. In the second, the Tigers had no hits and they left two on base. Campbellsville went scoreless through three innings. Zion Payne then went to the mound for Campbellsville and Georgetown added four runs in the bottom of the third. GC scored those runs before the Tigers got an out. Late in the third frame, Georgetown had two runners in scoring position with just one out on the board but they were unable to score anymore runs that inning.  
 
The fourth inning started with a Georgetown lead 4-0. The Tigers went another frame with no runs, and they left two on base. In the bottom of the fourth, Georgetown's first batter was walked but the next three went three up, three down.   
 
In the top of the fifth frame, Campbellsville scored their first two runs from back-to-back batters. A. Castaneda was hit by a pitch and reached first. Then Samio Uze hit a double down the right field line which brought Castaneda across the plate. Uze then reached home plate off a throwing error from Georgetown. Gonzales was the next plate appearance, and he was walked. Georgetown then switched their pitchers and Campbellsville's next three plate appearances got out. The fifth inning finished with a Georgetown lead 4-2.  
 
Campbellsville and Georgetown didn't see any runs through the sixth. In the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers had one hit and one left on base with no runs scored. Zack Bromstead came into pitch for Campbellsville and Tyler Belcher came into catch. In the bottom of the seventh, Georgetown's first three batters were the three outs for Campbellsville. The game wrapped up with the eighth and ninth inning being scoreless for both teams and Georgetown wins the last game of the double header, 4-2.  
 
Campbellsville saw three pitchers this game and threw a total of 127 pitches. Combined, the three pitchers had a .646 strike percentage. Cheek pitched for three innings and allowed the four runs Georgetown had. Payne pitched three frames and allowed three hits. Bromstead pitched two innings and had two strikeouts. Uze and Castaneda were the only two Tigers to cross home plate, but Campbellsville had a total of four hits.  
 
The Tigers will be back in action at H.I.G. Field where they will play Union College. The game is Saturday, April 16th and will begin at 3 p.m. ET.
