Georgetown captures MSC title over the Tigers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's volleyball team competed in the Mid-South Conference championship match against the Georgetown Tigers Saturday afternoon falling 3-1. 
 
In set one, Campbellsville earned their first point with a kill from Jason Camacho. Georgetown answered this first strike with a six-point run as they fired two aces and two kills accompanied by Tigers' errors. Camacho and Eric Heller solidified attacks of their own to win scratch at their discrepancy. Both teams battled back and forth and were unable to gather more than two points at a time until Campbellsville gathered a three consecutive points from Georgetown's mistakes. Campbellsville evened the score at 18 due to Georgetown inability to have a clean attack. The match remained close and a kill for Ho Yin Leung evened the score at 24. After getting ahead by one, Georgetown did not let the Tigers win so easily. Bastian Korreck's kill and Leung's ace earned Campbellsville the first set. 
 
To begin set two, Georgetown went ahead with the lead over the Tigers. However, Campbellsville inched toward the tie score. The Tigers took their first lead of the set with a service ace from Ryan Smith. It was a tough fight as Georgetown mustered up collective of points to establish a new lead above the Tigers. Campbellsville remained in a four-point range of the rival Tigers. Both teams traded the serve, but Georgetown stole the set away from the Tigers. 
 
Neither team was going down without the opposing force desiring the same. Georgetown ran with the lead and the Tigers were unable to get ahead. Georgetown acquired multiple kills to inaugurate their advantage. Georgetown busted open their lead to 11 points. Jakob Zum Kolk's kill, as well as his team's advancement due to Georgetown errors, reigned in their discrepancy to single digits. Georgetown finalized set three with a kill and two aces. 
 
Set four began with the Georgetown Tigers gaining a 5-1 lead over Campbellsville. A Korreck kill and ace from Kolk allowed Campbellsville to shorten their deficit, but by capitalizing from a Georgetown error, the Tigers were able to trail by one. A turning point of the match occurred as three consecutive kills earned Campbellsville the lead. Camacho and Heller's kill earned the lead. Georgetown were persistent in their attempt to best the Tigers. After trading points, errors from the Tigers gave Georgetown the win. 
 
Heller led with ten attacks on the day as he earned a .533 hitting percentage. Korreck trailed with nine kills and Camacho with seven. Leung totaled three aces. Ryan Smith collected 36 assists.
