Tigers pick up pivotal game one of series over the Bears

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville Baseball Team hosted Shawnee State University on Thursday afternoon for a Mid-South Conference showdown. The Tigers defeated the Bears in a 7-1 victory and now look to games two and three on Saturday. 

Brady Tedesco and the Tigers started the ball game with a quick and efficient three up, three down to move into the bottom half of the inning. Jorge Gonzalez singled to second base and advanced to second on an infield error. Unfortunately, Gonzalez was left stranded on third. 

After another three up, three down inning, Cameron Castaneda doubled to left center. Josiah Clark reached base via walk. Eddy Arteaga was brought on bases from a fielder's choice with Castaneda and Clark moving up a base making the bases loaded. Sam Eagerness then came in to pinch run for Arteaga. On the throw back to the pitcher, Castaneda stole home and Clark advanced to third. Alex Castaneda took first on an infield error and found himself on second on the throw. Clark scored and Fagerness moved to third on the error. Kale Seitz grounded out but Fagerness across the plate and pushed Castaneda to third. Samio Uze grounded out but scored Castaneda. Gonzalez doubled to right field but was left on base. The Tigers took an early four-run lead over the Bears to go into the third inning. 

The Bears sent a solo-shot home run for their first hit of the ball game and put a run on their side of the scoreboard to begin the third inning. On an infield error, the Bears put a runner in scoring position on second base. Tedesco struck out all three Bears' batters to go into the bottom half of the third inning. Clark made it to first base on an infield error but was caught stealing to go into the fourth inning. 

Tedesco added strike outs number six and seven to his stats to go into the bottom half of the fourth. Alex Castaneda laid down a perfect bunt to reach base but was caught in a double play for the final out of the inning. Tedesco and the Tigers' defense retired all three Bears in three up, three down fashion. Amenta went to base after being walked. Unfortunately, Amenta was left base. 

Again, the Tigers put away the Bears in a three up, three down inning with Tedesco striking out his tenth batter in the sixth inning. Clark was brought to first on an infield error. Arteaga doubled to left center and Fagerness came in to pinch run for him. Alex Castaneda laid down a bunt to reach first and move Fagerness into scoring position at third. Kale Seitz sent a pitch to right center to score Fagerness and Castaneda to give the Tigers a five-run lead. 

During the seventh inning, Zack Bromstead came to the mound for the Tigers. Bromstead and the Tigers' defense put away the Bears in just eight pitches to go into the bottom half of the inning. Amenta singled to left field but was left on base. 

Another three up, three down inning moved the Tigers into the bottom half of the eighth inning. Clark went to first on an error and then advanced to second base to start things off for the Tigers. With a fly out from Arteaga, Clark pushed to third. Logan Verble came in to pinch hit and sent a pitch to center field for a sacrifice fly and to send Clark across the plate. The Tigers went into the ninth inning with a 7-1 advantage over the Bears. 

For the final inning of the ball game, the Tigers' made sure the Bears couldn't add any more runs to their side of the scoreboard with a quick three outs. The Tigers took a 7-1 victory over the Bears of Shawnee State University. 

The Tigers had eight total hits with Alex Castaneda and Jorge Gonzalez each having two hits. The Tigers had two pitchers with a combined total of 105 pitches and a .695 strike percentage. Tedesco had ten strike outs on the day to tie his Campbellsville University career-high. 

The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow to complete the three-game series against the Bears of Shawnee State University. The games are set to begin at 2 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET.
