CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville Baseball Team hosted Shawnee State University on Saturday afternoon to continue their campaign against the Bears. The Tigers defeated the Bears in game one but fell in game two to split the day. However, by winning two of the three games in the series, Campbellsville will host the Bears in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Championship.
Game one: Campbellsville 11, Shawnee State 3
Kacey Cheek put away the first batter of the ball game. With a defensive error and a walk, the Bears found two runners on base. Cheek recorded the final out for strike out number two to move into the bottom half of the inning.
Samio Uze led off with a single to left center to reach first base. Uze got to second base on a wild pitch.
Noah Amenta reached base off a four-pitch walk.
Jacob White singled to right field to advanced Uze and Amenta into scoring position. With the bases loaded,
Josiah Clark singled to right field to score Uze and Amenta and pushed White to third. The Tigers took a two-run lead over the Bears to go into the second inning.
The Bears put a runner on base after being hit by a pitch to begin the second inning.
Cameron Castaneda fired from right field to third base to make the second out of the inning. The Bears loaded the bases with two outs but
Cameron Castaneda made the catch to keep the Bears from adding any runs to their side of the scoreboard.
Joshua Lambert came in to relieve Cheek on the mound to begin the third inning. Lambert and the Tigers' defense put away all three Bears in three up, three down fashion.
Grant McQueary singled to right field to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Clark reached first on an infield error and advanced McQueary to second. McQueary and Clark moved into scoring position on a passed ball.
Alex Castaneda laid down a bunt to reach first base and send McQueary safely across the plate. Clark then went home on a passed ball.
Kale Seitz sent a pitch over the right center fence for a two-run home run and his second home run of the season. The Tigers took a six-run lead over the Bears.
Amenta tripled down the right field line to lead things off for the Tigers in the fourth inning. McQueary singled to left field and sent Amenta across the plate. McQueary sprinted to second base on a passed ball. Clark reach base via walk. Arteaga singled to right field and advanced McQueary and Clark into scoring position.
Sam Fagerness came in to pinch run for Arteaga. With the bases loaded,
Alex Castaneda was hit by a pitch to reach base and sent McQueary in to score.

Kale Seitz to second base. Before the final out of the inning was made, the Tigers took a 11-run lead over the Bears.
Deshawn Welch went to the mound for the Tigers in the sixth inning. A defensive error and two walks loaded the bases for the Bears. The Bears sent a single to left field and scored their first run of the ball game.
Logan Verble came in to pinch hit and singled up the middle but was caught in a double play to end the sixth inning.
Kam Robertson hit the pitcher's circle to begin the seventh inning. The Bears put two runners on base with one out. After a caught fly ball, the Bears had two runners in scoring position. The Bears singled through the left side and sent both runners across the plate. It was not nearly enough however, as the Tigers defeated the Bears in a 11-3 victory.
The Tigers had 13 total hits with four belonging to Uze. The Tigers had four different pitchers with a combined total of 149 thrown pitches and a .564 strike percentage.
Game two: Campbellsville 1, Shawnee State 6
Zion Payne and the Tigers' defense retired all three Bears' batters in a one, two, three inning to move into the bottom half of the first inning. During the second inning, McQueary and Verble reached base via walk. Clark singled through the right side to send McQueary in to score the first run of the ball game before the final out of the inning was made.
The Bears singled to put a runner on base but was picked off by Payne and
Kale Seitz. Payne captured strike out number six to move into the bottom half of the third inning. In the fourth inning, Payne and the Tigers' defense put away all three Bears' batters in another three up, three down inning.
Arteaga laid down a bunt to reach first base in the fifth inning.
Alex Castaneda entered to pinch run for Arteaga but was left on base. Payne began the sixth inning with strike out number seven. With two outs, the Bears put the game-tying runner on base via walk but was left on base after Payne and Arteaga made the final out with a strike out number eight. In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Amenta singled to right center but was caught in a play at second off a hit from White.
The Bears sent two singles to left field to put the tying and go-ahead runs on base to begin the seventh inning. The Bears laid down a bunt to put another runner on base but the Tigers made the force-play at third to get the lead runner.
Chad McCann came in to relieve Payne at the mound with two outs and two runners on base. The final out was made before the Bears could send the tying run across the plate. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Verble reached base via walk. Arteaga doubled to left center and advanced Verble to third base.
Alex Castaneda traded with Arteaga to pinch run. Clark reached base via walk and loaded the bases. Verble, Castaneda, and Clark were left stranded on base.
The Bears sent a pitch down the right field line to put a runner on third base. The Bears singled through the left side and scored their first run of the ball game. Another runner was put on base after an infield error. With two runners on base, the Bears doubled down the left field line to score the go-ahead run. An intentional walk loaded the bases for the Bears with one out. A passed ball led to the Bears sending another run across the plate to take a two-run lead over the Tigers.
Jorge Gonzalez reached base via walk to start off the bottom half of the eighth inning. Amenta sent a pitch to left center for a single and advanced

Alex Castaneda came in to pinch run for Amenta. White laid down a bunt to reach on a fielder's choice.
Alex Castaneda and White moved into scoring position at second and third base on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, the Tigers could not capitalize with two runners in scoring position and left them stranded.
Lorenzo Lopez came to the mound for the Tigers in the ninth inning. The Bears put a runner on base after a double to center field. Another Bears' batter reached base on a fielder's choice and sent another run across the plate. This gave the Bears a 4-1 lead over the Tigers.
Ryan McFarland relieved Lopez on the mound. The Bears tripled to right center and added two more runs to their side of the scoreboard to take a five-run advantage. In the bottom of the ninth inning,
Kale Seitz sent a pitch to the right center fence for a stand-up double but was left on base to end the ball game. The Tigers fall to the Bears, 6-1.
The Tigers had six hits total hits. The Tigers had four different pitchers with a combined total of 164 thrown pitches and an .671 strike percentage.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday to take on Midway University at HIG Field in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The game is set to begin at 6 P.M. ET.
