Tigers win tight, physical match with Lakers

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University Tigers matched up against Roosevelt University Wednesday evening. After an unyielding match, Campbellsville left Finley Stadium victorious over the Lakers, 2-1.

In the first half of play, Campbellsville and Roosevelt were balanced in terms of determination and desire for the ball. The action was seldom because of the teams' swift, defensive play. Eventually, Campbellsville made their way downfield and were first to take a shot on goal as Sebastiano Musu tread into the box. However, it was saved by the Laker's goalie.

The Tigers did not let up on their mission to get ahead, however. Musu's pass to Yuso Kojima connectedf for the opening goal. Roosevelt did not allocate much time for Campbellsville to enjoy their lead before capitalizing on their chance to even the score. Just a short time after that, the Lakers took another chance on the Tigers' goal, but this time it would be a save by keeper Christian Hauge. Moments later, Campbellsville collected another hard-earned goal of their own. Jamie Bird kicked the ball from a foul spot and Diego Chainho attempted to head the ball in. Though his header was saved by the Laker's goalie, the ball rebounded in such close proximity that Musu took the opportunity for a header of his own into the net. Musu's shot put the Tigers ahead of the Lakers 2-1 going into halftime.

At the half, Campbellsville had taken four shots total; all of which had been shots on goal. A testament to their slight offensive advantage, the Tigers had been awarded two corners whereas Roosevelt hadn't been given the opportunity.

In the second half, Campbellsville's stamina would be tested. The Tigers attacked the Lakers' goal with four shots. Nathan Schmidli took a hard attempt of his own, but the effort had been impressively stopped by Roosevelt's goalie. In the Laker's offense, Hauge collected his second save of the match. Campbellsville did not loosen the reigns as they unabashedly kept pursuing the opposing goal. It seemed sometimes the best defense was a pressuring offense. The Tigers remained on top until the final buzzer as they held on to take the match for their first home victory of the season.

At game's end, the Tigers tallied 11 total shots and the Lakers totaled eight. Hauge ended his night with three saves, allowing just the one Laker shot through.

Next, the Tigers will travel to Oakland City University Saturday, September 10th. The afternoon match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET.
